Cold sores - I didn't realise how important kissing is to me...

DP suffers from cold sores. He's very contentious about telling me as soon as he gets a tingle so there's no kissing for c. 10 - 14 days.

He takes antiviral tablets which seem to help him, in that the sores are less painful, but it doesn't prevent them appearing.

During the two weeks when there's no kissing, I find it really affects my mood and it's difficult to feel close to him. I also don't want sex, as I can't imagine that with no kissing.

Is this a usual response or are we somehow using kissing to prop up our relationship? e.g. if he annoys me or I feel sad for some other reason, he can't kiss it better like he might normally do.

Not sure about the kissing thing, but I take L lysine every day, and I’ve not had a cold sore since. And it’s been years. I used to get at least two a year, really big ones as well.

Following with interest as I suffer from cold sores too..never bothered me too much as i wasn't kissing anyone regularly...now I have someone to kiss I'm despairing of them. I feel the same way as you OP!
