Crying at old songs/memories

Viva Forever by the Spice Girls came on the radio in the car today. And I found tears streaming down my face without explanation (apart from imminent period).

I was just transformed back to being 12 years
old and the promise of all that life held for me.

Does this ever happen to anyone else? Or should I seek therapy/ contraception to numb my overly sensitive feelings?

There are a couple of charity shops near where I live which play older music. And the tracks they play just make me so sad and nostalgic for the past time when I was younger and happy that I actually have to leave the shop.

No one needs therapy for what you're describing. Your physiological reaction to a memory is your own coping system. Think about it: if everyone needed therapy in such an instance the community of counsellors, psychologists and other MH professionals couldn't cope either.

You'll have forgotten this incident by the end of the week, if not sooner😀.

Oh I wish I would forget it, it happens more often than I‘d care to admit!

Agree, I don't cry at real situations but when im on my own an advert with small child, tv programme or song can set me off.........and please don't play Abba's slipping through my fingers😭😭😭

YANBU for feeling like this, music is the soundtrack to my life and I can become very emotional and almost aching with nostalgia sometimes. I'm not a crier but if I ever do its this type of situation. YABU for Viva forever though, terrible song IMO!!

Elvis - You Were Always on my Mind. It was on a tv ad around the time my Nan died (mid 90s). Guaranteed to reduce me to a wreck because I worried so much that she didn't know just how much I loved her and that I should have written to her more. Looking back I am sure she knew. The song still has me in shreds every time.

I cried at a Divine Comedy track the other day because it reminded me of being a student and everything being so exciting and full of potential - very happy memories.

Are you me?

I get this all the time. Mostly music but sometimes smells or other things bring back overwhelming memories and feelings of nostalgia.
