It would be nice if these visitors could engage without resorting to insults

Never going to happen with some posters.

Karistyleaftea · 16/10/2025 12:42

Well done the North eat for the Migrant Myth busters campaign.
There are some very canny folk there.
I wish the BBC would take a leaf out of their book and do a lot more fact checking.

This gvt has gone with Canadian Solar in a joint venture. CS are alleged to use slave Labour in their supply chain. Lyons is not imagining an issue.

Ofcourse she is not imaging an issue. She didn't really get a chance to say much in that interview but I agree with her that we need stricter laws regarding human rights for workers.

David Allen Green on the China spy case

https://davidallengreen.com/2025/10/what-the-chinese-spying-case-witness-statements-reveal/

tldr - the third witness statement shows the government was providing relevant evidence and was not seeking to spike the prosecution.

The CPS decision to drop the prosecution seems perverse.

So it looks though the CPS messed up and tried to blame this and the last government?

It us neck and neck between PC and Reform. Reform has a slight lead according to a poll of (I think) 500 people.

I am very nervous. Please don't do it, Caerphilly.

SerendipityJane · 16/10/2025 13:05

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2025 12:01

Twisty visited before because she got pm'd about something you said Pandora iirc

I told the Nuthatch she was welcome to engage in our discussions but she declined and said I was insincere.

Can anyone point me to these threads ?

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2025 13:06

I posted this elsewhere

All very amusing, but especially this:

"The most popular was an “Australian-style points-based immigration system,” with a net 46 percent support. The least popular was “Britain’s current immigration policy,” with -39 percent support."

Be positive and don't fall for the negativity. It's an onslaught to try to polarise opinions. Let's keep it on an even keel.

Labour isn't working in chat.

Started July 4th 2024. It's a thread that promotes fear, distress and anger. There's very little positive about it. Although I noticed lately that there's pictures of cats.

Don't post there. Because if you do they release the hounds.

placemats · 16/10/2025 13:13

I would add @PandoraSocks get out and campaign for PC in the future, even if it's a membership or support on Social media.

Miliband signed it off, it was the farmer who sold it. We need energy security and renewable energy is the best way to do it as an island.

Regarding food security - that boat sailed when Brexit happened. Thanks to Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.

Regarding food security, the UK hasn't been self sufficient for centuries.

If I were a Labour voter In Caerphilly I'd be voting for Plaid. I'd just want to keep Reform out.

And every tine I hear Caerphilly, I think of the [don't be silly shop in Caerphilly] advert (sorry!)

Oh yes England has been shocking regarding food security and relied heavily on Ireland for meat, Scotland for oats and France for vegetables. Wheat imports from the USA, Canada, Russia and India.

Farming also relies heavily on immigration.

I don’t know why more isn’t being made of agrisolar, the dual use of land for grazing/poultry farming under rows of solar panels. Grazing keeps the panels clear of weeds, panels give shade/shelter to animals, the farmer gets double income from the land.
I’d also add solar to agricultural buildings and put it over car parks, covered walkways etc.
There’s a lot of middle ground between “no renewables on farmland” and “solar powered barren concrete wasteland” but it takes nuance in an era of sound bite politics.

It's only "shocking" if you believe that limiting the population to what you are only able to produce is some sort of law of nature.

Otherwise it's just common sense.

No one - I repeat no one - in the UK is in any way remotely self sufficient. To quote one of the most heavy fact/fun documentary series in human history:

"When was the last time you make something from scratch - including the tools to do it ?"

My DF was a dab hand at making very niche tools (I mean who knew that lifting the shims out of the cam bucket on a Lampredi DOHC was specialist ?). But even he would draw the line at mining the ore and coal to smelt it before making the steel needed.

My sister (who is definitely left wing btw) lives in a village in the middle of the Mallard Pass Solar Farm development. Locals had requested the high panels so sheep could graze under them but this has apparently been turned down.

I understand that local farmers were given a bit of a Hobson's choice in terms of renting or selling the land - but because of the status of the project they were threatened with compulsory purchase anyway.
I know it's nimbyism but it really will completely wreck the local environment.

What ever happened to Therese Coffey's 'eat turnip' campaign one wonders 🤔

I hope that is what will happen. A lot of Welsh Labour voters are planning to vote PC next year too. Me included.

I don't remember that advert!

Generally it's because when you dig into it, the costs for efficiency gained don't stack up. Unless you start subsidising.

Let's not be naive about this. Fossil fuels as mere fuels are massively cheaper than renewables. However it's not their use as fuels that is the issue. It's their use as climate drivers we are trying to address.

Fossil fuels are the junk food of the energy world. They do the job and they are cheap.

Re the ad. I just remember singing the ad it drunkenly with some Caerphilly lads in the late 90s. Its a very silly jingle. 😃
