Copper coil - have a I made a mistake?!

I had a copper coil inserted on Thursday, no bleeding on Friday, yesterday a bit more, this morning it’s like a heavy period. Of course I have googled and read horror stories of heavy bleeding for months on end and women eventually giving up and getting it removed!

I can’t take the combined pill, I tried the mini pill and bled non stop so I opted for a coil purely to stop constant bleeding, have I just signed up for more?! Agh

I didn’t go for the mirena because I take utrogestan with my HRT and I love it, I didn’t want to stop that. Before I tried the mini pill I was having light periods every 28 days

Anyone have a good experience with the copper coil?

Copper coils don’t stop bleeding. Only Mirena/Levosert

i took utrogestan for a while before I swapped to patches - gp was happy for it.

im happy as no periods

It’s early days. Did you have heavy periods before? It does usually make them a bit heavier for most I think. I wouldn’t write it off yet, give it at least a few weeks, months if possible, so things can settle down. I know several people who have them with no issues, and have had one myself for several months but I’m still breastfeeding and my period hasn’t returned yet.

Thanks, I’ll stick with it, hopefully this is just the initial settling in period. When I’m not on contraception I have regular, light periods. It was just the mini pill that set off a months long bleed. I came off it and had not bled at all for a week, then the coil went in and here we are again

I ended up becoming anaemic because my periods were so heavy and lasting 11 days. Keep an eye out.

I’ve got the implant in now and I don’t get periods at all.

I had one for 10 years.
First couple of months heavier but then light periods that only lasted 3/4days

Just wanted to come back and say the bleeding stopped after about 3 weeks. I’ve had two periods since then they are heavier but manageable with super tampons. The first period was quite crampy but the second one was better. I am actually glad I got it now!
