Mp3 player; how do they work now?

I want to buy my 5 and 7 year old an mp3 player and headphones each for christmas. But I cant figure out how they work these days. WiFi or no WiFi? Do we need many Spotify accounts? If no WiFi then how do I get the music on it? I was a limewire kid so I presume we now have to pay for each song? That sounds expensive.

What's the best option here to allow them their own music ans audio books that isnt going to break the bank?

Please and thank you lovely humans.

for an mp3 player youd have to buy music to load onto them
if looking for other options id suggest getting a second hand cd player and cds( super cheap from charity shops) you can get basically anything and gives them the exietment of building a collection or even saving up for music/ audiobook they want

Family Spotify about £20 a month

I still use an MP3 player ;)

But I agree a CD player might be more fun.

Also, if you buy CDs from Amazon they give you the download for your MP3 player as well. If you already have CDs you burn them to a computer and then transfer across to the MP3 player.

That is quite a lot really. I just use YouTube for music I don't have on CD or downloaded.

I'm tight and old-fashioned, and just download music from Youtube for free (lots of websites will convert Youtube videos to mp3). I use an old Vtech device (Snap touch, discontinued but available on ebay etc) as an mp3 player. It has no wifi which feels safer for younger kids, but that means I need to download on to my pc, then transfer to a microsd card and put that into the Vtech.
