Baffling Vinted situation

I recently sold a teapot on Vinted, packed it up, sent it off. The buyer today has left me bad feedback saying I sent the wrong item.

She sent me a photo of what she got (a Christmas mug) next to the packaging I used. But I’ve never owned that mug. I said as much and she’s saying she opened it in front of her family and this was definitely what she got.

I don’t understand! She hasn’t asked for a refund, which I’d happily give and says she will keep the mug. But it’s not my mug!

I don’t know what I’m hoping for here really. Has this ever happened to you? She’s clearly telling the truth because why lie? It can’t be a scam because what’s the point?

Spooky!

Spooky!

Maybe the Evri depot is haunted 😁

She's lying because she wants a refund.
With CF like this, just ask for the item to be returned to you. And don't you pay for the return!

That always sorts out the sheep from the goats. You won't get a parcel back, and you'll get your money in a few days.

Mangledrake · 11/10/2025 12:14

If your packaging is distinctive, she's clearly not telling the truth. Maybe she's just enjoying messing with you. Maybe she has some relevant condition and believes her own story. But - if you're sure the packaging is yours - that's the only possibility.

I suppose if the packaging isn't yours for sure, there may have been a mix up if she ordered multiple items, or even just a wrong delivery.

Weirdly though, I offered a refund and she said no. She likes the mystery mug. I, however, do not like the bad feedback. Especially the bit where she says I’m taking no accountability. But how can I? It’s not my mug!

Definitely my packaging. And I thought about her getting mixed up but she says she never bought a Christmas mug (which she now likes 😁)

I guess I just have to jot this one down in my notebook of weird and carry on with life (whilst occasionally seething at the feedback.)

Someone swapped it in the depot ? If it’s in your packaging then either she is mistaken, lying, or it was swapped.

Yetmorewifework · 11/10/2025 12:22

If it's definitely your packaging, then she's at it. Your teapot has arrived with her safely but she's trying to get it for free i.e. saying you sent the wrong item. Dig your heels in, insist that she sends the whole package back to you and raise it with vinted as a disputed review etc.

JaniceScott · 11/10/2025 12:27

I would find it less baffling if she had asked for a refund! But she’s just given bad feedback and sent messages saying I need to own my mistake even though she’s happy to keep the mug. I’m now questioning myself, even though I know I sent a teapot and not a mug I’ve never seen before. I’ve given it too much headspace now really. It’s the feedback more than anything. And the weirdness.

That is so bizarre. Like you said, if she’d asked for a refund then you’d know she was pulling a fast one but she doesn’t appear to be!

How weird!

I’m going to chalk it up to ‘people are endlessly fascinating and surprising’ and try to not let the feedback haunt my thoughts 😁

edited for repetition of the word not. I blame my over-thinking brain

I once sent Christmas presents in distinctive wrapping via Evri. They arrived with the recipients in our packaging but when opened it was stuffed full of old clothes and the presents had all been pinched.

SadOldLadyOfTheLowlands · 11/10/2025 12:33

Someone else has your package? Probably just a mix up.

Do a search for that mug, and see if its been sold recently, then check their feedback.

Autumn1990 · 11/10/2025 12:34

One bad feedback on an otherwise good account isn’t going to make any difference. So just don’t worry about it

You can respond to her feedback I think. State you advised her to return it and it's her choice not to.

Oh, I didn’t know this! Doh. Thank you, this might ease my seething.

I once received my subscription of Slimfast from Amazon and 3 of a pack of 6 had been drunk and the empties put back in the packaging!

I got a refund for the whole 12.
