Swollen thumb and bruised

My son hurt hus thumb playing football he kicked his hand instead of the football, the thumb was fine when he done it yesterday morning, last night he was complaining it was swollen and starting to bruise, no pain, unless I press on it he says its tender, he can move it absolutely fine and he can bend it with any pain, its jjst bruised and swollen, anyone else had anything like this? Is it typically sprained, what can I put on it?

It doesn’t sound broken from what you’ve said but I’m not a doctor.

put ice on it to help reduce the swelling and see how it is this morning. If you think it needs minor injuries it’s Saturday go early before all the morning sports injuries start showing up.

I am going to see how it is when he wakes up this morning, hes still managing to play with his playstation controller, so I dont thonk im to worried its broken,
It is quite bruised but that can happen with a sprain thank you
