24 hour fast

Anyone done a 24 hour fast? How did it work for you?

I have to take a lot of meds so would eat a breakfast with all food groups and then fast until the next breakfast. Or this then a small lunch. So an 18 hour fast.

Landed with cardiac inflammation (now under control) and other problems including CF type symptoms.

Not in the UK and it has been mentioned as potentially beneficial, including by a medical specialist.

I fast between 48 and 100 hours a week. Specially for my arthritis as it reduces inflammation. I feel amazing when I fast. Pain reduces hugely, sleep well, masses of energy, reduced brain fog. Day 1 easy. Day 2 difficult. Day 3 better. Day 4 and 5 energetic and could continue for ages. Highly recommended.

Water only with electrolytes salt, potassium, magnesium. I also take collagen, biotin, turmeric, cayenne and glucosamine.

I've done it, I used to regularly do 3 day fasts, and have continued with them to 7 and 9 days.

I love fasting, it's great for inflammation and getting blood glucose under control.

Thank you so much. I think I will try 18 hours for the first one. Hoping for a reduction in inflammation as I reduce steroids, so willing to try anything.

For normal days I am trying to eat a lot of fermented foods and cut any rubbish. Feel so much better when I manage this.

I was doing 18/2 up until last week and will be starting again on monday. I prefer early time restricted eating (eTRE) so try to eat between 10-12. I'm considering starting a fast from after dinner tonight until 10am on Monday as well as I feel carbed/glutened.

Has anyone had any health issues from fasting. When eating normally I sometimes get tachycardia and POTs. Will be careful about electrolytes and also keep a few snacks with me. Hoping an overhaul may help.

I fast frequently and find it very beneficial for both weight loss and health.
No health issues at all - fasting or not.
I do get a headache if I do a clean fast BUT if I allow myself a cup or two of tea with a splash of milk I feel great.
Good luck.

Edited

I ended up with gallbladder issues from fasting and spent a week in hospital, I was doing keto too which made it worse

24 hours should be fine.
I tried to do a 3 day fast once, and about 30 or so hours in started to feel very sick and faint and just awful. I purposely had barely any food in the house so ate some ice cream, which I threw up.
I will only ever fast intermittently now for a maximum of 16 hours.
Good luck.

Wow, some of these replies are incredible. I don't know if I'm.impressed or think 'that's nuts'. I get hangy if I go more then 2 hours without food.

Brillo8765 · 13/10/2025 06:12

I've just done a 24 hour fast for the first time due to a colonoscopy and was amazed that I was fine and didn't get hungry, so I'd be interested to try it again.
