Just watched the 3-person shooting episodes of 24 hours in police custody.

Absolutely horrendous. Made me want to shut down the entire internet.

Anyone else watched it ?

Just to clarify I've not been in custody. I'm referring to the Channel 4 telly programme.

Harrowing telly and poses some serious questions about the internet. I know online can be a fabulous place (see mumsnet at its best) , but this was a grim, grim peek into an horrendous world that I'm glad to be largely ignorant of.

I came here thinking you'd been in a cell. Glad to hear you were just sitting on your sofa in front of the telly.

I haven't seen it but why does it make you want to shut down the internet?

Lurkingandlearning · 10/10/2025 22:07

The internet wasn’t the motivation. He wanted to exceed previous killers. People were trying to out do notorious murderers before the internet existed.

The internet makes the information easier to find.

The biggest shock was how easily he bought the gun

I agree with shutting down the internet comment. The coppers involved were shocked to see how easy it was to see the list of real life hideous kills on the regular web and that it wasn’t on the dark web. They said you could see it in 3 clicks. Horrifying. That boy seemed a regular child until lock down and his relentless searching and never ending want for new and more graphic material spiralled and the internet fulfilled his want to a terrible end. The disconnect from his family and the matter of fact connection to a fictional character called clementine was chilling. Internet fuelled.

It is not a good thread. Far too many people (who haven't read the sentencing remarks) saying "Ooh, but he's autistic, he just needed help".
