Immigration and the green party

Honeybunny75 · 10/10/2025 11:00

I've always voted green, but probably not really looked as closely as I should of done at their policies.
They are saying they want a world with open borders .
I was just looking at their immigration policy.
How will that work, welcoming anyone who wants to come here ,how will that work when there's no houses to put them in .
I read recently that a huge amount of brits are homeless and in temporary accommodation waiting for a home ..so I can't see how we can take endless people in ...much as we may want to house the whole world,we are a small island

Its mad! Those houses are owned by someone. You cannot just take them! You could offer a crap price and they could refuse. What next? You then have properties that are empty whilst all this nonsense is going on. Is being a landlord going to be illegal? Will they go to jail?

What about people who have houses are that are too big for them? Who judges this? Are you going to force them to downsize?

What's mad, is bat shit propaganda from the right (OP is a Reform voter) .

Greens propose phasing out private landlords making huge profits from renters, ask any fucking renter and they think that's a great idea!

How do you do that? Its 20% of the rental market, so 8 out of 10 renters aren't even impacted- you phase it out so landlords get out the game, (keep the flats empty / sell them ) or convert to highly regulated fair rent , fixed tenancy , (convert them to effective council flats in other words) no-one is getting their property 'taken from them'

TheAlwaysThereButNeverUsedCeilingLights · 15/10/2025 12:56

Instead here we propose a system of managed migration, with visas and rules

But that is already in place?

Honeybunny75 · 15/10/2025 14:19

penfoldanddangermouse · 15/10/2025 12:48

Hahahaha,

You are in for a long wait if you want Reform to print that, even if they did, they'd ignore it on day one.

If the British public knew what Farage and his billionaire pals had in store for the UK and our rights....

Also your post is incorrect. The Green party do not propose an open border, if you read anything published by the Greens, you'd know that's bullshit.

'In the Green Party we are not normally shy of making policies for our ideal world. However to unilaterally remove our border controls seems a step too far and is a tough sell on the doorsteps. Instead here we propose a system of managed migration, with visas and rules. This will enable us to welcome migrants to the UK and treat them with dignity, and to also not dismantle the system of control in case we need to restrict movement in the future for whatever reason.'

This is completely untrue. It is one of the most efficient healthcare systems in the world. You are just spouting the usual rubbish from Reform or the Daily Mail. Per capita spend is lower than the G7 average. Health outcomes are not the best (lowest in the G7 for cancer survival but this is improving each year), however overall we do pretty well. The problem with the NHS is that it is massively underfunded (thanks to the Tories) and had had some partial privatisation which is expensive and ineffective (thanks again Tories).
Anyone who believes Nigel Farage and Reform will do anything but gut the NHS for profit (he is in bed with the US insurance companies) is an absolute fool.

The NHS has been declining in performance since 2010. The last report I can see of it being quoted as among the most efficient was in 2017.

Moreover, how do you explain stagnant productivity despite increasing funding?

Im not making a party political point either. Labour seem to understand the Herculean challenge they face.

It depends where you look and what parameters have been measured but you and I both know that the UK ranks up there globally with an efficient healthcare system so for you to say 'The NHS is notoriously inefficient' is blatantly untrue. It is not 'notoriously inefficient'. Could it be more efficient? Probably. Should we be spending more on it? Definitely!
As to reasons why it is declining in performance? It is the aging and sicker population (all those people born during the boom years are getting older and sicker and the generations below them are not exactly living healthy lifestyles conducive to cheap healthcare). We have also seen a decline in the care sector traditionally provided by local councils (thanks Tories) which puts more pressure on the NHS.
Then there are the amazing and expensive advances in medicine which are increasingly complex and of course prolong the lives of the aging and sick population.
The impact of the existence of the NHS on drug prices is in itself extraordinary. There are not many organisations in the world with the buying power of the NHS. Do not for one second think a private company would get a good deal on drug prices (see the USA and Trumps recent fit over drug costs). It is either horribly naïve or deliberately stupid to think the private sector could do a better job (look at the excellent job private companies have done with water, the railways, energy companies etc). Anyway derailing the thread which was not about the NHS so I will leave it there.

They could also offer market rate, compulsory purchase, ban you from renting it out so you'd either have to keep it or sell it on the open market... What next? Some rich property owners could hoard property as they do now until they're forced to take market rates for the place.

The rest has not been suggested in anyway.

He was lots of things including being an actor but he was also a hypnotherapist and it was in this context that the Sun journalist approached him.

I recently quit. I used to be a party member. Never actually voted for them in government election. But they were being a right coo coo pain in the bum a few years back with their lady penis stuff and I signed up to have some influence on their leadership elections.

Didn’t actually vote for this Zach guy so not sure when he was voted in. As I said lost interest and stopped membership.

The thing you have to be most worried about with reform is that the underlying principle is the great replacement fear. They want to stop white indigenous britains from being a minority at all costs!

At this point that’s mathematically impossible to do unless we do mass deportations and also increase our birth rate (ie. Abortion restrictions/ bans).

These are dangerous people. They arent wrong that we have created a potential fucking nightmare for ourselves but there’s no going back. We are going to have to be smarter and wiser to evade disaster. Someone needs to think irresistible carrot policy not stick. And also pretty much pause all future immigration.

Which is bloody outrageous in itself. As if they let that many people in the last decade that we do probably have to stop all immigration for the foreseeable future. They really have fucked everyone over.

I am currently head in sand about it. I might have to get over it and join reform as party member to try to temper their insanity. But I think that’s a waste of time. These are fear driven policies difficult to change.

The idea that white indigenous people not being ok with being a minority in their country of origin is racist and white supremacist is beyond me.

If I were to suggest that China should be ok about mass white immigration and not allowed to question it, I’d be laughed out of town.

i don’t believe in the great replacement theory but your sneery post is unhelpful.

Well yes exactly. How can a man say he feels like a woman. They have no idea what ‘feeling’ like a woman is. Because they arent a woman.

And even if it was possible and they did ’feel’ like a woman (which it isnt btw! Thats just delusion)…. Even if it was… So what. You aren’t a woman. Simple

Your OP statement is mis-information, as in, ITS LIES.

You state Green Party policy on immigration is open borders, no visa, no rules, open to everyone, THAT IS NOT TRUE.

You spun the first line on their website, took the first few words and left out the rest, - The Green Party wants to see a world without borders, until this happens the Green Party will implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration where people can move if they wish to do so.

You also say 'I've always voted green,' which is odd as the Greens used to be believe a far more radical manifesto to one they have now...Mmmmm🤔
