Website building

I've got a small business that I really need to get a proper website up and running for.

I am an absolute technophobe luddite type. This sort of thing terrifies me. But I think I need to do it myself because otherwise I won't know how to maintain and update it with stock levels etc...

I need to be able to have listings with loads of different options available, different sizes etc.

What's the absolute easiest way to do this...?

The easiest way to do it is to get a professional to set you up with a website specific to your requirements which you then manage yourself day to day

Absolutely do not do it yourself, unless you're fully up to speed with web accessibility, mobile responsive sites and how to securely store people's personal data.

Have you looked at shoppify?

I work in digital marketing and have a degree in web design but even I struggle with some of the technical sides of launching a new site. I’d find a freelance web designer who should build it in Wordpress or shopify and then updating it will be easy.

Do you have to sell through a website? 3rd party providers, like Shopify (mentioned above), Etsy and Stan Store are really effective. Especially if you also really go for it on social media - insta and tiktok - definitely NOT Facebook/twitter (or whatever the hell it is now). It’ll save you a fortune.

Etsy fees are absolutely prohibitive tbh and you're competing with a load of dropshipped sweatshop-made shite anyway. Never heard of Stan Shop, will look it up now.

Thanks for the suggestions, Shopify seems like the best bet so far!

Oh Stan appears to be for 'content creators' which is not my thing at all! I handmake actual things from scratch. No 'content' here 😂

Try one of the website creating sites, I found it very easy - you choose a theme/template and then just fill in the text, they have options available if you want to make in an online shop too. It won't allow total free rein so you might need to try a few templates to check they give you everything you need, but it's a bit like if you've ever created a photo book type thing on snap fish or business cards , except it produces a website. My dad did one for his wood turning business and he's in his 70s so I'm sure you'll be great!
I think there's a few, look at Ionos, Wix and Squarespace and see if one suits you better
