Pyjamas?

Reading another thread which mentioned pyjamas (I refuse to call them PJs!) many, many times got me thinking. Does nobody wear nightshirts or nightdresses any more as they are never mentioned? Personally, I can't stand loads of material flapping around my legs and getting twisted at night!

I never wear nighties and never wear skirts either. My legs have not seen daylight for about 25 years.
Just feels weirdly impractical to me.

i wear a nightie

Reachedthefinalstage · 09/10/2025 08:43

I slept nude when I was younger.
Then I wore pyjamas for many years and hated wearing nightdresses.
Then a year or so ago I bought a nightdress for a hospital stay and I wear them quite often now although I still have pyjamas as an alternative.

I wear short pyjamas in the summer, no flapping, and I only wear cuffed bottoms in the winter so no flapping. I think a nighty would end up around my neck.

I wear nighties as I can’t bear long pyjama bottoms - they make my legs itch and I find the shorts with summer sets ride up too much

CallingAlice · 09/10/2025 10:19

I haven't worn pyjamas since I was a child. I wear cotton nightshirts, mostly from British Boxers or Yawn.

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/10/2025 10:20

I wear nightie's and pyjamas - but not at the same time 😎

inamo · 09/10/2025 10:21

Just the pyjama tops or any other out of commission long sleeved T shirt. I don't wear bottoms, they end up around my thighs!

zingally · 09/10/2025 10:22

My best friend loves a nightie and swears by them. Not for me though, I get irritated by how they ride up to my neck in the night!

I don't like pj bottoms though. My legs feel too constricted and get too hot. So I just tend to sleep in the top half and underwear.

Mydogisagentleman · 09/10/2025 10:22

Nighty in summer.
Pajamas in winter

Belladog1 · 09/10/2025 10:24

I generally wear an old t-shirt with a pair of knickers in bed.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/10/2025 10:41

Team nightie here! I wear pyjamas as “lounge wear” after work, but can’t stand anything round my legs in bed.

poetrybreak · 09/10/2025 10:49

British Boxers do great night shirts, I used to wear nothing but I’m up with my youngest quite a lot.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/10/2025 10:53

I have a couple of nightdresses but never wear them. They always rise up and twist around my waist so I find them uncomfortable to sleep in.

TreeDudette · 09/10/2025 10:56

I have evening pyjamas that I wear to sit on the sofa and then I swap to a nighty for sleeping in. Can't sleep in pjs and don't want to have cold legs whilst sitting on sofa.

But then you have double the laundry! 🧺. I couldn’t be dealing with that 😆

Birthday suit here!

ShaunaOfTheDead · 09/10/2025 13:58

Pyjamas for lounging, Chanel No.5 in bed Wink

QuinionsRainbow · 09/10/2025 21:15

Another one for birthday suit, with a splash of Chanel 5 when I'm lucky enough to have been given any.

As a young child I always preferred PJs over nighties, the inner tomboy in me I suppose. But from about ten years old, I've always been a birthday suit girl, thanks to the combination of an extended heatwave and understanding parents who took pity on their sweltering children. DH was quite impressed when we first met!

I'm with you on this. Bigly.
Plusly all my beautiful legs are a bit orangey so can attract wasps, and they are nasty, nasty things.

I was always birthday suit until we got burgled - I got up to turn the fan off in DS bedroom unbeknown to me they were likely on the stairs and I disturbed them. Soco told me this. Since then I wear vest top and pants!
