Help with cleaning iron

Something has melted onto the iron plate and I'm scared of damaging it. What would you recommend? Thanks.

Use paracetamol tablets. Switch the iron on and then rub the tablets on the marks until they melt. I used tweezers to hold mine. Then wipe the plate clean. You go through a few tablets!

Paracetamol tablets, I've never heard of that, what's in them that cleans it I wonder?

Yes Paracetamol tablets work. Make sure you are careful not to burn your fingers though as you have to heat the iron up in order for the tablets to work. Just keep rubbing on the hotish iron plate.
