Carlisle - uber

I need to travel to Carlisle in a few weeks and could do with knowing if I will be able to rely on uber to get from the train station to my final destination on the outskirts. Can anyone with local knowledge advise?

There is Uber in carlisle

Loveduppenguin · 06/10/2025 19:25

There’s taxis right outside the station from what I can remember…on the street to the left.

KnickerlessParsons · 06/10/2025 19:32

Other taxis are available

Why not use a local taxi company?

just editing to add
I was in Northumberland earlier in the year

The local taxi firm told me lots of interesting things on the way from the station to the hotel! It was really useful finding my way round. I booked my cab the day before and the first one I called was actually too busy to fit it in. Though I don't suppose you'll have that problem in October. I may be wrong.

Anyway, I'm glad I ended up with the one I ended up with because they were very nice and I used them a couple of times while I was away.

I really don't want to live in a world where people only get a taxi by app. So I'm plugging the human contact line.

Why do I want to use uber? I want the convenience of paying by card and proper invoicing as I am travelling for work. I am a lone female traveller and I like to be able to send my journey details live to a friend or my DH for security. I am not from the area so I don’t know the local taxi companies. I was only asking a question about whether it is available locally as I didn’t know - if it isn’t I will look at other options.

@MikeWozniaksMohawk

Google and Reddit seem to suggest it's very patchy

hopefully someone here can help you but if it's patchy, I would suggest that you have some local cab numbers. Most places let you pay by card although a hand scribbled receipt is still a thing with most mini cab companies I find.

OP they're are MASSIVE roadworks outside the station atm and I couldn't find a taxi rank for love or money.

Highly recommend a firm called something like radio cabs carlisle. App lets you order and pay online, just like uber. Would definitely use again.

Creamcakeandrhinos · 07/10/2025 19:38

The roadworks have stopped for the moment and it’s clear to walk/drive

Yes, Radio Taxis

I was able to get a taxi from outside of the station no problem. Radio Taxis app was also very good. Tap a Taxi app was absolute rubbish.
