So sad, I’ve been to a few events she was at but never had the courage to speak to her. Those who did say she was so lovely.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 06/10/2025 16:08

I'm so sad about this and also so surprised that she's not trending. I had the enormous privilege of seeing her promoting Rivals on the South Bank and she was utterly unquenched despite her obviously limited physical mobility. I hope wherever she is she's drenched in Krug, reeking of Fracas and followed by a host of rescue greyhounds.

Resurrecting an old Jilly name for this. So so sad to read this. Her Rutshire Chronicles brought me, and millions of others, so much joy.

She certainly lived life to the full! My thoughts are with her family.

I loved her books and her joyous take on life. I have Jilly to thank for planting the expectation in my teenage head that sex should be fun and infinitely pleasurable, for which I’m forever grateful! A legend. So fabulous that her books have found a new generation of fans.

TheHillIsMine · 06/10/2025 20:00

I've never read a Jilly Cooper book but I know a lot about her life. It is so sad to die after a fall.

I'm wondering if I should get a book or two of hers.

RIP Jilly.

She seemed like a good egg!

My favourites were Polo and the man who made Husbands Jealous.

I was Sad to hear this too .
I've read Jilly Cooper since I was 18 , started with the "name" books (Octavia was first ) then my (now DH) boyfriend bought them all for me from a 2nd hand book shop.
Then Riders, Rivals ..and on. Stopped at Wicked I think so some I haven;t read.

I haven;t watch the recent TV adaptation of Rivals ( did watch Riders and TMWMHJ)

I reckon there will be a load of new readers being introduced to Jilly Super Cooper !

Same! I loved her, I thought she was as sharp as Jane Austin in many ways, uproariously funny and her books brought such pleasure. I read and re-read Rivals up to Score in particular. No one in print has ever named animals better. Vale Jilly, I hope there are lovely parties in heaven for you packed with delicious gossip, handsome men and faithful dogs.

buckleten · 06/10/2025 21:51

I'm so sad about this, she has been one of my favourite authors since I was a teen, and I have nearly all of her books. I am re-reading the Rutshire Chronicles at the moment, they are so good!

LivingTheDreamish · 06/10/2025 21:57

She was fabulous! I'm glad she got to enjoy her Damehood and the TV show, which must have made the last few years rather fun. I absolutely loved Queen Camilla's tribute.

RunningJo · 06/10/2025 22:18

So incredibly sad to hear this earlier today. Loved her books!.

SeaAndStars · 06/10/2025 22:35

Her children's tribute to her was so moving. What a life she had - lovely Jilly.

I adored her girl's names books. The stories have stayed with me a lifetime. Huge dogs by roaring fires, handsome men giving fishnet stockings and sheepskin mittens for Christmas, cashmere jumpers, a glamorous hostess washing her hair to get the garden mud from under her fingernails, sports cars rushing through cow parsley lined lanes on hot summer evenings, canal boats with girls in bikinis and the hero's hair always curling beautifully on his collar. Glorious stuff.

Beesandhoney123 · 06/10/2025 22:38

Jolly cooper was always one of my fantasy dinner party guests. Loved all her books. Brilliant. How lucky anyone is who knew her. But how sad they must be now.
