So sad to hear she’s died. Her books-Prudence, Octavia and later Riders etc were the books of my youth. I always thought about writing to her to tell her the pleasure her books gave me it too late now. RIP Jilly.

I loved her too. Actually I think her books were very underrated, she was a seriously brilliant writer when describing the English countryside.

Rest in peace to a really lovely lady . I met her on a train many many years ago and had a lovely chat with her. 💗

Her novellas - Imogen, Octavia, Prudence, Harriet, Emily, Lisa & Co, Bella are still some of my favourites. Cooper's turn of phrase was wonderful, so Victoria Wood at times. Her love of animals, particularly dogs was a marvel. Copper was one of those uniquely British writers whose words leaped off the page and into my psyche. Your words were a joy, her characters names even better. When marking out free/thinking time in an ex-boss' diary, I used to use names from Cooper's books.

RIP.

She was the one who taught this ex council estate girl never to say pardon.
