Inspired by another thread - are you full time, part time, SAHM and how old are your kids

Obviously what works for everyone is different, and I’m not looking to cast judgement on anyone else’s decisions in life!
Now my DC is 7, I am surprised however to be only one of two full timers out of my close group of friends. The other 5 range from 2-3 days a week. No SAHM in our circle though.
I was PT until school then shifted to FT then.
Just being nosy and wondering what’s the norm for other friendship groups, and is there a shift as DC get older?

DC are 36, 27, 25, I am a stay at home person and DH retired young so I guess I am
retired even though I didn’t work.

Husband is full time and I work 33hrs over 4 days but have a long commute on my 3 office days so that adds 2hrs a day. I had 13m mat leave and gradually upped from 2 to 4 days. Little one is almost 3, we have no family help. I wish we had both gone 4 days and only had 3 days childcare. When he starts school I'll either do the same as now as husband wfh so can do all drop offs and I'll do pick up or use after-school club a few times a week. Or I'll spread my hours across 5 days. I don't know any SAHM. Most full time friends are term time only and everyone I know has had some form of grandparent help. We have a cleaner which helps and I don't think we would manage if husband wasn't wfh

I am finding this very interesting as I was working 15-20 hours a week til recently but the job was quite stressful in the end and needed to leave so quit without a plan.

Only have one DD9 but have very unwell Mum so do a lot for my parents including at least one day of care per week.

I don’t want to be a SAHM forever but until my daughter leaves primary there is no after school club and with my Mum as well it all is just a lot. Seeing combination of hours is really interesting for when I’m looking for other jobs.

Really varies in our friendship groups what hours people work - have everything from two FT parents with no support to full time working Mum with SAHD or two FT parents with loads of grandparent help. Would say most common is PT Mum though.

I’ve always worked full time (although DS is an adult now). Most of the women at work are FT (or nearly) even if they have kids but at DSs primary school there were a lot of SAHMs and very PT workers. But most of them had large families - some had 6 kids so no wonder they didn’t work outside the home!

But I’m civil service so lots of leave and relatively flexible, so I got most of the holidays off.

I was FT until I went off on mat leave with DS1 12 years ago.

Then I went back to work two days a week, went off to have DS2 after 2 years of that, went back again at two days a week for a very short time then went up to 30 hours over four days when DC were 18 months and 3.5yrs.

Stayed like that for 8.5 years and then last month finally went back up to FT but still work four (long) days. It’s tiring but I like my day off in the week too much to give it up!

Sahm-returned part-time for 4 months now work full time (school) so holidays off. DC’s aged 10,9,8 &6. I’m retraining as a teacher in secondary. I know mostly part time parents, a few full time timers & a few sahp’s. Dh has his own business so he does drop off & pick ups, can muddle through for illness etc & I’m home for all holidays.
