Would it bother you if you bought a new dress, and a friend that loved it, asked if you minded if they bought it too?

What would you think ?

Would annoy me if honest.

MidnightPatrol · 04/10/2025 20:48

I wouldn’t be remotely bothered.

It’s a compliment really, just make sure you don’t wear it to the same event!

clipboardz · 04/10/2025 20:49

It depends on the dress, if it was an everyday one and we spent a lot of time together then I would expect first dibs on it. If it was a work dress and we didn't work together wouldn't care.

WatchingTheDetective · 04/10/2025 20:49

It depends. Do you go out together, so there's a chance you'd want to wear it but couldn't as she was? If not, then it wouldn't bother me at all.

GhostsInTheWindowsAndWalls · 04/10/2025 20:49

It wouldn’t bother me at all.

DancingwiththeEuropeans · 04/10/2025 20:49

Not in the least. I’d be pleased.

Eleph42 · 04/10/2025 20:50

Wouldn’t care as long as they didn’t wear it to the same event?! It’s a compliment.

APatternGrammar · 04/10/2025 20:51

I have done this with a friend (though it was when we were shopping together so nobody had first dibs) and we agreed never to wear it when going out together, it worked fine.

Coconutter24 · 04/10/2025 20:52

I wouldn’t be bothered. I’d only be bothered if I’d bought it for a certain event or outing and she was planning on getting it for the same event

SixSeven · 04/10/2025 20:52

I would mind at all, but I’d insist on first dibs for wearing it if we go out together. Or I’d just let her borrow mine.

Fluck · 04/10/2025 20:52

Not at all

I'd be hugely complimented. Assuming you are not wearing handmade couture, surely hundreds, if not thousands, of women are going to be wearing the same item all over the country, so what difference does it make if you happen to know one of them?

What if she'd just bought it as well not knowing you also had one?

No87 · 04/10/2025 21:12

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. We'd probably laugh about it if we wore it at the same time.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 04/10/2025 21:14

I'd be flattered! I wouldn't mind if she wore it to the same event, either - I don't really see why that's apparently such a faux pas...
