Job comparison - would I be stupid to leave my current job.

Current job

  • low pay band
  • no chance of progression
  • not learning anything new (due to nepotism but that's another thread!) so getting very bored.
  • love my colleagues and department colleagues
  • very flexible working arrangements to suit my individual needs
  • round the corner from my home.

New job

  • no idea what the team is like.
  • grade higher than current role
  • probs more working in the office/ restrictions
  • autonomy in job which I love.
  • not really the job Field I love although have worked in similar roles before.
  • office 20 min walk away

I absolutely love my colleagues and wider department. I have tonnes of flexibility and start and finish anytime between 7am to 8pm. The job is a bit boring but there's some technical bits to it which I enjoy but I've been there 3 years and kind of hit a plateau. I want to learn new stuff, take on new responsibility but that ain't gonna happen due to nepotism.

Should I change to another job
Or wait possibly decades before something comes up in my department?

you should change

Change - life's too short.

How old are you? Do you have kids or other caring responsibilities?

If you want to progress, yes, change jobs.

If you want to coast, no, stay where you are.

I don’t know, if it’s not much of a jump in salary I’m not sure I would. But you obviously have reasons for wanting a change
