Really disappointing, watched it on tv today first time.

Just needed to tell someone 😊

Why does she walk like that though?

It's so exaggerated.

Nahh... weak storyline. Plus, couldnt stop looking at Renes eyes that were literally closed all the time and she was waddling around...weird!

Yes! she doesn’t really do anything apart from shuffle about with her eyes closed and lips slightly parted with a kind of bemused expression.
I always thought she was completely the wrong choice for Bridget though.

I agree. The Bridget in the first book was funny and feisty, ditsy but smart - she was a TV reporter - and Zelweger made her look like a hapless drip that I can’t imagine either of the male characters fancying. Kate Winslet would have been a much better choice. Nowadays someone like Emma Stone (or even Zendaya) would be a good choice for the reboot.

Really? I absolutely love it. Lost my mum between watching it at the cinema and on TV and I cried a lot but also found it uplifting.

And I find the on screen Bridget Jones much more of an engaging character than in the books, certainly the first book anyway. I found her completely irritating when I read it aged 20 and couldn't believe a woman who was almost old enough to be my mother was so flaky and lacking in confidence, particularly when she was so much more privileged than I was. When I saw the screen version I adored her and have since, and no-one other than Zellweger could do it so well. She is perfect, just as she is.

Reboot my absolute arse. Zendaya - are you on crack?

i didnt like the Roxster story line, it was awkward
i did cry
i liked the teacher
so on the whole the film got better even though at first i found it uncomfortable

Zendaya would be great if you like the ‘first book Bridget’. She was clever, sarcastic, and a bit nerdy/clever as MJ in Spider-Man. That’s much closer to the original Bridget character than the droopy drawers manifestation in the film.

I watched it on a plane and embarrassed myself by crying and laughing in equal measure. Thought it was great.

It isn't. The character in the first book is a lot more hopeless and irritating than in the first film.

Unexpectedly charming. I fell in love with Bridget all over again.

PaddlingSwan · 10/10/2025 04:26

I watched it on a long-haul flight just over a month ago.
Generally enjoyed it, made me cry slightly in places, but was also very irritated by the screwed up facial expressions and mincing walk of the main character.
Would definitely not have paid to see it.

amilliondreamsofsleep · 10/10/2025 04:40

I always thought the first Bridget jones film was the example that proved that the book isn’t always better than the film, as I found the comedy in the film rather than the whining book. The subsequent films have always just been nostalgia for the first and whilst this one had some preposterous bits (tiny shared room for the kids, epic bedroom suite for her) and loopholes you could drive a bus through, I wallowed in my nostalgia for the person she (and I) was 20 something years ago.

AnneButNotHathaway · 10/10/2025 05:28

The story itself has run its course imo and that's the main problem with it. I had zero expectations so I wasn't disappointed but I can see how and why other viewers could have been.

I’m still angry that an American actress was used at all for an iconic British character.
And also can never understand that anybody cries about a film, let alone a comedy.
Maybe I am just a robot like Chandler though.
