Really disappointing, watched it on tv today first time.

Just needed to tell someone 😊

Agree. I bought it on sky store soon after it came out. Didn’t mind the cost because I’ve watched the other three many times over the years. I found it a bit meh! I liked Hugh Grant in it but the rest was just bland. Haven’t watched it again.

clarrylove · 04/10/2025 00:18

Well I disagree. It made me laugh, it made me cry. I really identified with it. And I thought Hugh Grant was amazingly funny. And the boy was gorgeous..and Renee was amazingly as always.

I agree. I thought it was lovely. And funny. And it made me cry. I thought it was a shame that Mr Wallakers sons weren’t in it.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 04/10/2025 00:21

Nahhh... weak storyline. Plus, couldnt stop looking at Renes eyes that were literally closed all the time and she was waddling around...weird!

The boy storyline happened then stopped. And then suddenly she ended up with the teacher...no real story.

I loved it. Like a pp I both laughed and cried in the cinema.
I thought it had a brilliant balance of nostalgia with moving on.
Is it free to air somewhere now? refuse to pay more for telly for something i've already seen

QuinoafromKew · 04/10/2025 00:30

Loved it too and was so proud of not crying and thought I was safely through and then:

  1. Saying she couldn't be a great parent on her own/without him.
  2. Her lovely dad being dead😰
Would watch it many many times again.
Useitupwearitout · 04/10/2025 00:34

I was so distracted about what Renee was doing with her face strange expressions trying to show emotion all the time, the closing of her eyes at weird times, made her look like she was bored or falling asleep. She also seems to have lost the ability to walk in a normal way? As a consequence I barely noticed anything else Hugh Grant was good though.

BankfieldForever · 04/10/2025 00:37

Totally agree. I bought it when it came out in prime. Expensive, but I had a weekend to myself and was really looking forward to it.

It did its job and finished Bridget’s story but it was very bland and it felt like no effort was made in the writing, but the sets looked beautiful.

I would have been happier with it had Bridget just ‘courted’ the teacher rather than had an affair with a much younger man as well. It could just be me, but the emphasis on sex was a bit unnecessary in this one.

The gathering at the end felt more like the cast afterparty than part of the plot.

Thought they could have made more of Isla Fisher’s part.

stanleycups · 04/10/2025 01:11

Yes her walk is quite weird. I almost felt like Bridget herself wasn’t really there, if that makes sense? I don’t know, it felt like something missing. Maybe it was just the writing.

Eggybreadwithnuts · 05/10/2025 23:22

Isla Fisher,,??? Didn't even notice her iin it😵‍💫

The walk. God I couldn't look at anything else.

CarpetKnees · 05/10/2025 23:57

What channel was / is it on please ?

NorthenAdventure · 06/10/2025 00:41

I agree! I watched it a week or two ago for the first time. I'd read the book (which I didn’t much like either - a big let down after the first two brilliant books!). The film was similar- sad, weak, and unfunny. I mean, some bits were funny ish but it was most just sad. I didn't enjoy it much. Glad there were some old faces in it though.

shhblackbag · 06/10/2025 00:44

I thought it was the best since the first one, mainly because I loved Hugh Grant in it, though.

My TV tells me its available to buy from Amazon Prime for £6.99 or with a NOW TV (Sky) subscription.

Its not on free-to-air channels yet.

I only saw her once - she was a snobby neighbour, loudly shouting her disapproval of Bridget’s shambolic domestic life as they were both getting their kids out of the house to school. I wasn’t looking at any of the actors at that point though and actually rewound just to see the gorgeous (Hampstead?) houses again.

Making her a new friend for Bridget might have worked better as it was still all just the old gang, unless Isla Fisher didn’t want a big part in it - I’ve read magazine interviews where she talks about motherhood and children’s charities a lot and says she’s happy to act very little at the moment.

MardyAnn · 06/10/2025 14:20

Yes! she doesn’t really do anything apart from shuffle about with her eyes closed and lips slightly parted with a kind of bemused expression.
I always thought she was completely the wrong choice for Bridget though.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 06/10/2025 14:24

I enjoyed it, but it definitely needs to be the last one. It's another of those sagas that was of its time and has run its course. Still love Bridget though!

Lennonjingles · 06/10/2025 14:26

I really enjoyed it, not expecting the sad bits. DH and adult DS also enjoyed it, I’ve seen it twice at cinema and on tv.

beezlebubnicky · 06/10/2025 14:28

I thought it had some lovely and poignant moments with Bridget and her children but the story was weak, I hated the plot with Roxster. I know it's based on a book, that's the only one of the series I haven't read as I just wasn't ready to accept Mark being killed off.

Viviennemary · 06/10/2025 14:29

I only watched a little bit of it. Really boring and pointless. No Mark Darcy.

Bambamhoohoo · 06/10/2025 14:32

on the whole I enjoyed it but the fetishing of the young man was very uncomfortable

VenusClapTrap · 06/10/2025 14:35

I loved it. Cried buckets.
