Black box car insurance recording electric bike rides.

Help please - there is no call centre, online form filled in but could be weeks to reply.

DD (17) has a black box insurance (underwritten by major insurer but through another company)

She drives to work and is green on the black box- all good.

She has just had an email threatening to cancel her insurance because of phone use whilst driving putting her into the red for three days this week.

I have logged on with her, as all routes are recorded.
I can see her drive from work, she then goes inside our house which is listed as walking and then walks 100m up the road to the 'boris' bikes.

She uses her phone to sign into the app, gets on the bike, cycles past our house and down to meet her friend two miles away - including cycling down some bridleways and a no car zone.

The whole journey is registered as a car journey, despite the actual box being in the car that is still parked at home. She is marked as on the phone the whole time (it was in her pocket but the app was connected to the Boris bike)

It is the same for all three journeys. She is really upset as having a car is a prerequisite of having this job and if her insurance is cancelled she wouldn't be able to afford to insure again (it would go up if she had to say it was cancelled)

Has anyone had this happen, or any idea of how to get it resolved?

Thanks

Who on earth is your insurance with that they dont have a contact centre/number/online chat function?

CyclingNotDriving · 01/10/2025 21:23

Quite me happy - it is an online insurance underwritten by Aviva

Thanks I will share this with her, but when she called yesterday they said as not a claim they wouldn't speak to her, but it was a different number. Thanks for helping.
