Or a combination of both?

Both.

I was advised ibuprofen. I had roots extracted recently as a precursor to an implant.

Dentist mentioned paracetamol. Im in pain so will see how I go say in 2-3 hours, then take ibuprofen next if still aching

Alternate them. I underestimated how much and how long it would hurt. It does seem to vary though.

Both OP, but especially ibuprofen as it’s anti inflammatory (quoting the dentist here)

Eggybreadwithnuts · 30/09/2025 10:36

Is it 2-3 hours in-between if alternating?

You could also have paracetamol and codeine. The only issue with ibuprofen is its often not recommended if there is a risk of bleeding (or history of asthma or stomach ulcers).

Can you get to a pharmacy to discuss your options there?

I had one put yesterday and the dentist said alternate, so every 2 hours and not to wait until in pain just take for 24/48 hours depending on how the healing is going.
Was also told not to spit out for 24 hours just swallow, including toothpaste when brushing teeth ( did say can let if drip out) as otherwise you dislodge the scab that is forming. Also no rinsing mouth for 24 hours for same reason.

Both, alternating every two hours.

Yes was told not rinsing out for 24 hours then warm salt water next day 3-4 times a day. Bleeding is definitely reduced but pain is still there after 2 paracetamols 50 mins ago

Im dribbling into tissues as saliva and blood is gathering in mouth

Take both. But you might want to skip the paracetamol because according to science... wait I forgot that was just the orange monster babbling.
