I want a typical UK seaside holiday

Any suggestions for somewhere with a nice beach, funfair, typical seafront, but preferably not grotty 😂 and nearby other activities (maybe a decent pool or lido, park etc)

Weymouth is fun for a short break

Oh was just about to say weymouth is nice for a few days seaside holiday, we also like swanage.

Weve had a few happy hookdats in Morecombe.
Unfortunately traditionally the UK seaside holiday can include high winds and heavy rain.

Littlehampton has all of that. Take my kids 2-3 times a year, usually off season, and we always have a lovely time.

TreeGrass · 28/09/2025 10:42

Hunstanton in Norfolk
big beaches
funfare
arcades
pitch and putt
crazy golf
fish and chips
Nice sea views as the sun sets over the sea.

FionnulaTheCooler · 28/09/2025 10:44

Scarborough. There's a funfair on the front, a couple of big amusement arcades and Peasholm park. There's also Alpamare water park, although it's pricy.

Spidey66 · 28/09/2025 10:45

Brighton?

Crikeyalmighty · 28/09/2025 10:47

In my experience the non grotty ones don’t have some of the things you want - swanage and Weymouth not too bad, broadstairs nice too , but myself although it’s a pebbly beach I would go to Brighton

Soozikinzii · 28/09/2025 10:48

Anglesey is lovely if youre near ?

Crikeyalmighty · 28/09/2025 10:49

Bournemouth too - although is grottier than it was in the town - front and beach still lovely though

HobnobsChoice · 28/09/2025 10:52

I was going to suggest Swanage. It's not huge but the beach is lovely and there is a small funfair as well as a good park. It felt very traditional the couple of times I've visited and nicer than Bournemouth. Christchurch/Mudeford are lovely beaches and a good park at Mudeford but no lido or funfair. I've had decent weather in Dorset right into the October half term including being able to swim in the sea.

isitmyturn · 28/09/2025 10:52

North, South?
Scarborough for me. There are two bays. South bay has a funfair and cheesy arcades, donkeys on the beach.
The north bay is quiet and old fashioned with a great beach, beach huts, a park, boating lake etc.
Stay at The Sands apartments on the seafront.

Needmorelego · 28/09/2025 10:54

Weymouth or Swanage (or a combo of the two).
We stayed at Weymouth (fantastic beach) but drove to Swanage for the steam train.
I did a day trip to Margate which has a nice beach but I don't know what it's like for a week.
There is a big amusement park (Dreamland?) right by the beach.

I’m not sure if Aberystwyth has the funfair, but it’s a very typical beachfront, donkeys, in the middle of the town, play park, ruined castle, train up a cliff etc. It is just a really lovely place.

cantmakeanomelette · 28/09/2025 10:55

I second littlehampton it’s not grotty and it’s great for primary age kids, had many happy weekends there when my DC were small and it always felt safe and self contained.

Autumn1990 · 28/09/2025 11:01

Scarborough
south bay has the harbour, last donkey rides on the Yorkshire coast, numerous cliff lifts, the recently improved south cliff gardens. The gardens are really lovely. play equipment built into the hill.
North Bay doesn’t have the seaside tat it does have Peasholm Park also much improved in recent years. In the summer there’s the naval battle 3 times a week.
The Rotunda Museum which I believe is the oldest purpose built museum, there’s an art gallery.

The Spa, YMCA theatre, open air theatre have different shows on. Open top bus tours. Various putting greens and crazy golf courses. Sea life centre. Surf schools. Miniature railway. Oliver’s Mount
The downside to Scarborough is the town centre but I’ve not been to the town centre for at least a year.

We do love Sunny Hunny but live about 10 miles away so want somewhere different.

Brighton?

Increasingly grotty and definitely doesn’t have a decent beach.

Sodukuchess · 28/09/2025 13:23

Llandudno? (Not sure it has a Lido but an old school beach holiday vibe).

Cynic17 · 28/09/2025 13:26

Go east - you'll have better chances with the weather. Southwold in Suffolk, or further up the coast in Norfolk.

MelonElla · 28/09/2025 13:36
