I want a typical UK seaside holiday

Any suggestions for somewhere with a nice beach, funfair, typical seafront, but preferably not grotty 😂 and nearby other activities (maybe a decent pool or lido, park etc)

Sheringham. Family friendly beach, parking etc. Think there is a water park also.

WingingItSince1973 · 28/09/2025 13:51

Filey is also lovely. Big beach and interesting with rock pools. Xx

I have to give another vote for Scarborough, as it has two bays both with different vibes.

I also love Saltburn. Much quieter but is a great base as its within easy reach of lots of other places.

Lyme Regis is nice.

Illfracombe and the surrounding beaches also great..

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/09/2025 14:25

We did Scarborough/Whitby this year and really enjoyed it, we did Hunstanton the year before. Think we’re going to head to wales next year.we love a proper old fashioned seaside holiday with arcades, funfairs and days on the beach with Fish n Chips and Mr Whippy ice creams.

Agree littlehampton (or Bognor)
Portsmouth
Bournemouth.

morellamalessdrama · 28/09/2025 14:35

Swanage. Bournemouth is a bit grotty now so would avoid. Lyme Regis also lovely and there’s a fossil hunting beach nearby too (within walking distance).

Bobbedhairdontcare · 28/09/2025 14:39

Barry Island…. Tidy.

CarpetKnees · 28/09/2025 14:39

Tenby
Barry Island.

In truth, if you head for South Wales, you aren't far to travel to lots of different beaches, offering different things.

In North Wales,
Barmouth
Llandudno
again, all along the North coast there are lots of different places then offering different elements of what makes a seaside holiday.

Another vote for Weymouth. It’s the perfect seaside holiday.

I was born in Saltburn and holidayed as a child at Scarborough every year. I really miss both as lived on the South coast for 31 years now!

If you go to Littlehampton there is the option of a day at Butlins in Bognor Regis - especially useful if the weather isn't great as they have a indoor water spash as well as rides etc.

Funderthighs · 28/09/2025 15:09

Weymouth has everything you’re looking for and has a fully flat promenade which is great for pushchairs. The shopping centre is right next to the seafront, (so you can pop into M&S for a sandwich) and there are plenty of clean toilets on the prom too.

Aaaallthefood · 28/09/2025 15:23

Bridlington! That way you can visit Scarborough for the day too, and then we usually also go walking in Flamborough, and also over to Filey. Best of every world and lots to do (Sewerby Hall is a good trip out), but then you’ve the Sealife Centre, the RSPB bird place, arcades, rides, boat trips and lots of yummy food!

Spidey66 · 29/09/2025 11:23

St Ives

Theonewhogotthecake · 29/09/2025 11:28

Littlehampton is lovely.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2025 11:29

Broadstairs.

dagoo · 29/09/2025 11:29

Lyme Regis.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 29/09/2025 12:16

So many places to investigate thanks, dont want norfolk as we live here and spend loads of time at the coast, all along it really.

Is it only suggestions in England? @IllbefinejustbloodyfineIn Northern Ireland there’s lots of lovely seaside locations but I’d suggest Portrush and also Newcastle Co Down as great for a seaside break!

Sarfar45 · 29/09/2025 13:28

I love swanage

KnickerlessParsons · 29/09/2025 13:29

Saundersfoot or Tenby

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 29/09/2025 13:32

Llandudno and Whitby tick all the boxes IIRC. Whitby does get ridiculously busy in summer though.

Teenagerantruns · 29/09/2025 13:34

I agree with bridlington, lovely seaside town, we have friends there. Lots to do in surrounding area.
We also like Weymouth for a short break as we live about 2 hours away.

North87 · 29/09/2025 13:58

Bridlington, has everything you would want from a tradional seaside break. We visited this summer, we had such a good time that we have booked again for next year.
