Bug that keeps coming back... anyone else?!

At the end of my tether with the latest bug. Caught it right when schools went back, felt like covid in the sense of it did go to my lungs (using asthma inhaler daily whereas I use it extremely rarely normally) and pretty ill with cold symptoms but not full on flu (no hot/ cold/ aches etc) - been able to work (WFH) okish.

Thought it had gone after 3 or 4 days only for it to come back a few days later. Same again the next week. Now on I think the fourth resurgence. Feeling just as ill as the first time. DH actually looking worse this time.

What the heck is this bug that just won't go away?! Anyone else had it?? It's so weird I've just never had this experience before.
Please tell us we're not the only ones!!!
We are otherwise healthy mid 40s btw

That does sound quite typical of covid.

Yes! I started with a cold and tickly cough which went down to my chest about 2.5 weeks before we went on holiday. Thought it was clearing but plane journey, air conditioning, late nights and another plane journey and I felt rough again. Grumbling in my chest and in the top of my back. Doctor said I’d just been unlucky and got a double whammy of a nasty virus. DH has got it now. Heavy cold and chesty cough and raging sore throat. He’s had it for two weeks now. Luckily he’s got an appointment to see the GP for something else on Monday so we’ll see what he says. It’s grim.

Yes some of us had it, its not covid as tested, get some acupuncture as it always clears mine in a few hours.

Interesting that you had it but didn't test positive for covid. We haven't tested.

How long did it take for you to finally shift it?

Same here - the first week kids went back. Tested negative for covid though - if indeed the test is accurate. I’ve lost my voice now for over a week and I’m having to use my son’s inhaler. I feel like it’s clearing up but it’s slow.

It came back a few times before finally going to acupuncture clinic across the road, was hoping it would just go..i am lucky as respond fast to acupuncture so only one session got rid of it...if you go ask for 4 gates points. i had it for about 2 weeks in total.

Me! Although I think mine was COVID. I felt unwell for a week and then the following week I was floored by it. I thought it had gone and started to work but within an hour I had logged off. The upset tummy kicked in yesterday and I feel a bit better so I'm hoping that's it.

not sure where you live, but we have a huge RSV outbreak locally. It’s early in the season for that particular virus to be circulating so much. It’s nasty. While it doesn’t have the vascular implications that Covid has, in terms of how it can make you feel, it’s quite similar. I’ve had RSV a couple of times and it always rebounds when I haven’t rested enough. Try to rest as much as you can and it will clear.

That's interesting @CardinalCat my lungs haven't felt great so I've not been for a run since it first kicked off but I have gradually got back to (other) usual activities each time as I felt better.

Intriguingly I have a garmin watch which tracks HRV and I'm never sure how meaningful it is. Looking at the data it was on the floor on Friday when I felt absolutely fine. I worked out Saturday am, came home still fine. Just felt a little ropey Saturday evening but was the worst I've been Saturday night and Sunday. Wondering if i should take garmin more seriously now?! 😁

Oh and I'm in the south west BTW. Anecdotally quite a few people with respiratory bugs about now but that's all I know.

Definitely, pay attention to your HRV! I have an Apple watch and oura and between them they’re never wrong in predicting when I should pull back.

Paquitavariation · 29/09/2025 18:48

Yes, I’ve had the same for five weeks, mine was Covid, and only now am I starting to feel ‘normal’.

Tomomomatoes · 29/09/2025 20:45

I feel slightly better knowing I'm not the only one! I felt like I was going mad for a bit!
