Are these vintage shoes worth the asking price?

These shoes are from 1973. I collect vintage items, but I think the price is totally stupid.

What do you think?

I have owned these for 25 years, they date from around 1973, from UK shoe shop Manfield. very Glam Rock similarto the stylesworn by Slade, these are imitation patent leather lace up with a block heel. I have never seen another pair of these, ideal for...

It's in the link. £234.68!!

Wow! They are fantastic!
Also they look like they're in great condition. What do you think they're worth?

To be honest, aren’t things like this just worth what someone is willing to pay for them?

Exactly that. There's no set price for that kind of shoes (they're amazing). You should offer whatever you're willing to pay, and see what happens.

Well yes, that's true. I go to a lot of vintage fairs, and see a lot of these sort of things. Never in my life have I seen this sort of price, though. I've never paid over £50, and I think this seller is taking the absolute Mickey.

If they are pretty rare and collectable then I think that's a fair price. They are hideous though.

I quite like them! I've never heard of the shop Manfield, so I looked them up. They were part of BSC including Dolcis, Saxone and so on.

They are spectacular. I would pay it if I really wanted them and I’m definitely not well off. I mean, it can be £100 or more to buy a new pair of shoes from your average shop like Clark’s anyway. These are vintage. And did I already say spectacular? I remember people wearing shoes like that! I am also vintage.

TheChosenTwo · 26/09/2025 23:00

They’re worth what anyone is willing to pay really.
I wouldn’t pay a penny for them personally!

Blankscreen · 26/09/2025 23:00

They are worth it if you are a clown

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/09/2025 23:04

I had some like that in the 1970s.
I think they cost about £3.99.

HatStickBoots · 26/09/2025 23:08

They’re great colours. I’ve seen a lot of brown and cream versions, nothing like this. If you’ve got the money, get them.

captainoctopus · 26/09/2025 23:11

I have a pair of 1970s Ravel platform clogs in bright yellow knocking about somewhere. Don't think I will ever wear them again as I can't manage to walk more than 2 minutes in high heels any more. Must be time to put them on Ebay 🤑🤑

I was going to guess around £5 as Manfield were a budget shoe shop - cheaper than Dolcis and Saxone, if l remember correctly. I was too young for platform shoes but remember older cousins wearing them. Dolcis were my favourite in the eighties. I bought a lovely pair of pixie boots from them.

Pixie boots! Yes 🩷 mine were red suede. I’d forgotten about them… wish I still had them.

Exactly. Or are you the seller trying to boost interest in them??

Silverbirchleaf · 27/09/2025 08:18

What an odd price. Surely you’d go £225 or £250 (haven’t pressed link).

dottycat123 · 27/09/2025 08:38

There were a pair almost identical in a local charity shop over summer, good condition in the vintage section for £20.

It's ebay's new method of commission. They add a bit to the buyer's price rather than collecting it from the seller after.

Nearlyhealthy · 27/09/2025 12:16

They were hideous the first time round and they are still hideous now. I might consider paying that price for the shoes if I loved them, as other people have said it’s what the buyer is prepared to pay. But note that the seller mentions they’re not in great condition so if you are thinking of wearing them much you might be disappointed.

TheSkyRaisin · 27/09/2025 13:26

Well, as someone has already said, stuff like this is worth what people are willing to pay for it. The seller may be hoping a TV of film costume person with a decent budget will snap them up.

Did you note OP that the seller says they are ‘a bit delicate’ and recommends taking them to a cobbler if you buy? That would definitely put me off. If I were to spend that kind of money on a vintage item I’d want it to be great quality and really well-made. Perhaps this ties in with Manfield being a budget shoe-shop, as someone upthread said? I can’t comment on this as Dolcis was more my era 😁 Personally I’d rather buy a brand with a great reputation.

I had red suede pixie boots from Dolcis too.

CalzoneOnLegs · 27/09/2025 13:28

The glue and plastic will be degraded beyond repair by now, seller can dream on with that asking price

HornungTheHelpful · 27/09/2025 13:30

That and the suggestion that glue needs to be refreshed?! Surely for secondhand (because that’s what vintage is) shoes that are glued not sewn the price is eye watering?
