Are these vintage shoes worth the asking price?

These shoes are from 1973. I collect vintage items, but I think the price is totally stupid.

What do you think?

How much are they, OP? I don't click on links.

urbanbuddha · 28/09/2025 18:22

“a bit delicate”…

A cobbler won’t be able to save them. They’ve had their day.

The look like they are on verge of disintegrating as mainly plastic, and one looks like it’s been glued on the sole
Covered in dust and grime which is probably holding them together .
sorry op the price is a piss take

Antimimisti · 28/09/2025 19:47

Ask yourself?

  • Can you afford it without depriving yourself of anything else/using credit?
  • Would you use/display them rather than keeping them in a box under the bed?
  • Are you unlikely to see another similar pair cheaper in the foreseeable future?
  • Would the purchase bring you joy?
  • Would you be gutted if you went onto eBay and found they'd been sold?

If the answer is 'yes' to all of them, buy them. If not, don't.

HatStickBoots · 29/09/2025 13:49

I’ve changed my mind since learning about the condition and the materials they’re made of. If they were leather and you could clean them up nice and wear them I think they’d be worth £100 at the most. I like the pattern as it reminds me of the Yellow submarine graphics or David Bowie. But these are not worth more than £15 to use as a display item.

I had some like that in the 1970s.
I think they cost about £3.99.

I had the very same pair, was very surprised to see them again!

AndreaMarvell · 30/09/2025 21:41

Well, instead I've bought a pair of Mary Quant platform heels from 1972, multi coloured leather, and cost me £78. I saw a pair of these in the V&A at the 2019 exhibition (on here towards the end of the article) which are a size 7, so I reckon with my size 5.5 feet I might actually be able to wear these (if only as Car2Bar shoes).

Exhibition celebrating designer Mary Quant will open at the V&A

An exhibition celebrating fashion pioneer Mary Quant, 85, will open at the V&A on Saturday. Exploring 1955-1975, it aims to celebrate her commitment to feminism and democracy in fashion.
