Good places to live in South Hampshire?

Looking to move to South Hampshire, as currently living in Surrey and the prices are obviously astronomical!

Looking at moving to Petersfield, Liphook and Havant areas.

Any places you’d recommend?

It depends on budget, whether you need schools, want a lively or quiet atmosphere, in a town or near countryside.

Romsey

Mysterian · 26/09/2025 13:21

Avoid the area south of Portsmouth.

If you think Surrey is expensive, wait for the 'Petersfield premium'. Do you need to be near transport (trains) for work or schools?

FuzzyWolf · 26/09/2025 13:32

Petersfield and Havant are very, very different.

I lived in Locks Heath for many years. I really liked it. Close to Southampton, Portsmouth and the motorways. Easy to get to seaside places. An hour to the New Forest tops. 10 mins drive to nearest mainline station to London.

Edit; oops wrong part of South Hampshire

Petersfield is lovely, but expensive. If I could afford it, I would live there.

The sea? 😂

Depends on your budget - Romsey and Winchester are lovely but very expensive. Ditto for the New Forest - Brockenhurst, Lymington etc

If you like Petersfield, and are considering Havant, how about Emsworth? Right on the Hampshire/West Sussex border. Good road connections, decent rail connections. Or Rowlands Castle - more of a village but decent connections.
