Silverstone Grand Prix

Not sure if this is the right place but one of my children has asked to go to Silverstone next year as their Christmas present. We think we can manage 2 tickets (so an adult can take ) But only really the General Admission Tickets. They are 11 so dont qualify for the discounted tickets 🤦‍♀️ . Will this option still be ok? worth doing or is it stands or dont bother?

It really depends. Loads of people love general admission, but when I went I was really glad to have a grandstand ticket. We chose covered grandstand in case of rain but it was actually really sunny and the shade was invaluable for us. The other advantage is that you don’t need to arrive early on Saturday/Sunday to secure your spot with a grandstand ticket. Could you ask the 11 year old, maybe watch some YouTube videos together to get an idea of what a GA day might look like.

I think it would definitely be worth it.
The atmosphere is brilliant, lots and lots of children go and
so many spots to watch it from.
I went on a day ticket a few years back with DH and we ended up going for the next 3 years , camping.
I hate camping but the British Grand prix is amazing if you like your motor sports.

If you wanted a vaguely decent viewing spot, you have to line up hours before the gates open. Even then, the people with general access staying on site might get in earlier than you.

if you can possibly spring for the stands, I would, otherwise it will be a loooong, possibly wet, weekend.

Forgot to say, I have done general admission twice and stands twice.
Both thoroughly enjoyable.

I went for a number of years but the last time was over 25 years ago - so take this with a lot of caution as things may have changed. When I went, the General Admission ticket was great value, but if you wanted a seat on one of the grass banks where you had the best views, you had to be standing at the Silverstone gates at 5am and then when the gates opened at 6am, you had to know where you were going and had to run to secure the best spots. Of course once you had your place, you then had to wait 8hrs for the race to start, through sun, rain, etc. Fantastic atmosphere and experience though! Highly recommended and I hope one day to manage to go again.

I've been to Silverstone many times, we have done general admission and had a seat in the stands too. The first time we went we did general admission and it was amazing as I had just been desperate to finally go to a grand Prix. The atmosphere was amazing and we went onto the track after the race for the podium. The downside was once we had found somewhere to sit first thing in the morning we had to take it in turns going to the toilet and one of us had to go and queue if we wanted food or to look at the merchandise.
The next few years we had a seat which was great as you could come and go as you pleased and you got great views but only of the bit of track by your stand.
We went again last year in general admission for qualifying and the race and we moved around the track as qualifying and the race was happening and it was good to see the race happening all around the circuit. Make sure you have a foldable chair, clothes for every season and buy one of the Silverstone radios so you can listen to the commentary and you will have a fabulous time.
