Trump and paracetamol. Why?

I mean does he believe this nonsense? Does he gain from it somehow? Does he think it increases his popularity? Is it all for attention?

Why has he put this nonsense out? What's in it for him?

The first article you linked to isn’t about autism.

The second article is about association, not cause and effect.

The 3rd link is the same article as in the second link but and on a different website.

The 4th link is an opinion piece not a piece of research.

Additionally the first research paper into autism was released in 1911 and paracetmol wasn’t sold commerically until the 1950s.

Just quoting you because it's worth repeating!

@ohfourfoxache said

“why are the media pandering to him?”

Because they get cancelled if they dare do otherwise? I know Jimmy Kimmel got reinstated for tonight, but still … the execs must be thinking about it.

Is it? I have a very close relative who has a diagnosis of “autism” and nothing else. He is a teenager now, non verbal, totally unaware of any kind of danger, unable to look after himself in the most basic of ways. For him, I cannot see any “strengths”.
Perhaps that is an issue with the diagnosis of “ autism” which seems to be extremely broad.

To be fair, the poster you're quoting said it "can" bring strengths. Just because you can't see any in one person doesn't mean many people with autism don't have these strengths.

Who sponsored this 'good quality peer review research'?

Lets not forget that the 'peer review research' arena is completely corrupted and has been for at least a decade.

Funding statement from the recent huge Swedish study referred to elsewhere in this thread (published in JAMA, one of the world’s top medical journals, and finding “Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children’s risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analyses”):

“Funding/Support: This work was funded by NIH/NINDS 1R01NS107607”
i.e. National Institutes of Health (USA) and National Institute of Neurological Disorders (USA).

I don’t think they’re paracetamol manufacturers. 🤔

I know he talks a lot of shit but he never suggested anyone drinks bleach. He was talking about how he had been shown the effect disinfectant and UV light had on the virus. He was suggesting it could be looked into how these properties could be adapted for use in humans. If we are going to criticize him for crazy talk let's not start doing the same.

DJT used word "injection" wrt disinfectant in this clip.
As usual he's vague which keep people talking about "what did he just say?!"

I just ignore him, he is irrelevant. I would like some actual, scientific based research and findings into exactly what is causing this enormous increase in autism though. I do not believe the huge increase is just down to “more awareness”.

There hasn’t been a huge increase in autism. There has been a huge increase in diagnosis of autism though. Some of that is more awareness, but also the diagnostic criteria widened over a decade ago and now recognises those who weren’t the stereotypical autistic people (non verbal, learning disability etc).
the fast and unpredictable world we live in today has made symptoms more obvious. There are studies that children who live in cities are more likely to be diagnosed than those who live in rural areas.
I work in a neurodevelopmental team and a high proportion of the kids I assess have parents who are neurodivergent themselves- either diagnosed or not. Many of those report to have/ or currently experience mental health difficulties.

SpottyAardvark · 23/09/2025 20:13

why are the media pandering to him?

Because, whatever you or I may think of him, Trump is the democratically elected President of the United States and the most powerful person in the world. And as such it’s the mainstream media’s job to cover him & report on what he says & does.

This story isn’t about autism or paracetamol. It’s about politics, and Trump is very good at politics.

Beammeupbob · 23/09/2025 20:23

@lljkk- But again, he never told anyone to drink bleach. It's been repeated here many times and it's simply not true. I'm not a Trump defender but there are countless threads about him and things he's said that just aren't true. If we are going to constantly criticize him then at least look at what he's actually said not just the made up, click bait headlines.

chipsticksmammy · 23/09/2025 20:36

RFK stated the ‘link’ a few weeks ago, there is a BBC article in the first week of September that I assume didn’t gain much traction.

Tylenol is made by Kenvue, who were spun out of J&J. J&J have had quite a few cases brought against them regarding the link to autism.

I think Trump is echoing the RFK nonsense again as a distraction. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was to tank the Kenvue and J&J share price for gain or that their are talks going on somewhere that J&J are refusing to bend on pharmacy prices for the USA or not raising prices abroad etc.

Works brilliantly, hatred against women and shows he has the power to control one of the worlds biggest pharmaceutical companies. His pal sells the cure.

All while not investing to help people through decent science and healthcare.

Abhannmor · 23/09/2025 21:17

Does he have shares in Nurofen!

TY78910 · 23/09/2025 21:53

This is the same guy who told his nation he will ‘slash the price of medication by 1400%’. You can’t discount something by 1400%. You’d be paying your customers to take it. He talks out of his arse, has no idea what he’s talking about half the time.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2025 22:00

Abhannmor · 23/09/2025 21:17

Does he have shares in Nurofen!

As that is ibuprofen, which is not recommended in pregnancy, hopefully not!

this is the page linked to from the NHS website…I know you were joking but it’s important pregnant women know not to take painkillers except paracetamol unless under specific medical advice.

Timeforabitofpeace · 23/09/2025 22:58

It’s really not a distraction if he manages to get some of this through. The man is a monster.

This is actually a very good point as his claims will now have changed a lot of people’s minds about the safety of taking it in pregnancy.

MyPinkTraybake · 24/09/2025 07:55

This is about pharma investment, money and power.

Always either to try and move the markets in his direction- or what group can he pick on to try and divide and rule.

There's nothing that we have never seen before with Trump - just that we never thought anyone could go so far.

Timeforabitofpeace · 24/09/2025 09:01

He’s going after the courts, comedians and judges/justice. Those are among the people who can undermine him. Now he has moved onto medicine. Class nazi style tactics.

Why are you so sure it's nonsense?

Hi Donald, Mr. President, is that you putting more bollocks and fake news crap out there? 🙄🙄

I don't know why he puts such shit out like this. He's the worst and most stupid US President there has ever been, and the US has had several contenders for that title.

Abhannmor · 23/09/2025 21:17

Hopefully not.

Anyway, I think he was referring to Tylenol, which the name for paracetamol in the USA. Nurofen is ibuprofen which I think is called Advil across the pond.

Because my maternal uncle and my father were both born before Paracetemol was invented.
Because autism is descriped first in 1911 by a Swiss psychiatrist and later in the 1930 and 1940
Because there are several studies who clearly show a genetic link and no prove that medication or vaccination is part of it.

Project 2025 is designed to take away women's rights, health/medication is just a small step on a larger scale of the whole idology.

Exactly- if you look back in history people were dying of lung cancer long before cigarettes and smoking became established or before asbestos became a common building material.

Which clearly goes to "show" that there is no link between either smoking or inhaling asbestos dust and lung cancer.

MissPobjoysPonies · 24/09/2025 10:05

I hope that the US make a huge fucking apology to the globe for having such a fucking buffoon in charge.

H34th · 24/09/2025 14:44

I’m watching ‘The Trump Show’ on Channel Four and realising that things are worse than I thought, to be honest. People are shown videos of the inhumane treatment of immigrants, being arrested and taken to El Salvador, cheering as if it’s a football match and they are winning. It’s disgusting how much support his hatred has.

Well there is a study from Harvard showing a link between Tylenol and autism. There is also a study in Sweden showing that there is a very little to no link between Tylenol and autism.

Take your pick which to believe- but to say there is no evidence at all is factually incorrect.

A pile of acetaminophen pills.

Using acetaminophen during pregnancy may increase children’s autism and ADHD risk | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

When children are exposed to acetaminophen—also known by the brand name Tylenol or as paracetamol—during pregnancy, they may be more likely to develop neurodevelopmental disorders including autism and ADHD, according to a new study.

Because it places the blame on the mother.
Evangelical Christianity and Project 2025 hate women and want their rights removed.
They have removed reproductive freedoms, want to remove their rights to vote and now want to remove their right to medical autonomy during pregnancy including basic pain relief.

This! any way to keep women down, in pain, anxious, worried. Absolute scum he is.

Oops! Thanks for pointing that out. One of my sons has a serious intolerance to aspirin. I think he avoids Ibuprofen as it works the same way? He can take codeine but that has its own drawbacks of course.
