Cleaners

Bit of a random question. I’m looking for a new cleaner and there is a local company that people recommend. The company on Facebook are always looking for staff and advertise that they need to be self employed. They talk as if it’s normal and she’ll teach them how to do it. I would have to pay the company who then pay the cleaner

Just wondered if this is normal? It sits a bit uneasy with me.

Well it's not really a proper company with staff if everyone has to be self employed. And if they are self employed then there's nothing stopping them coming to your home in an independent capacity for a different fee?

If you think it sounds unethical then don't use them. I know there are certainly some who do actually employee genuine staff. But I don't know how common it is.

I’ve always avoided using them but getting a bit desperate for a cleaner now! Maybe I’m being too fussy but after my last cleaner said she only wanted cash to avoid paying the government when I asked to move to bank transfer I just want an above board legit transaction. Happy to pay but all around here seem to disappear when you ask to pay by bank transfer and check insurance.

Wow I'm shocked that so many cleaners want cash.

I've been a cleaner for over 20 years and am very happy with a bank transfer or cheque (for the non internet clients). I generally invoice 4 weekly or on a certain day of the month to fit with clients pay day.
