“Once I had ten”

secondary age kids are a different breed, right? I checked in on ds1 12, about his breakfast. He had had 4 weetabix and a banana. I exclaimed a little about eating 4, and he informed me that one time this year he ate 10. 10 weetabix, well wheat biscuits I buy own brand.

how many weetabix could your kids eat? He’s not overweight and he’s pretty active, we only have semi skimmed milk and he probably didn’t eat again until his packed lunch.

ive just had two that I microwaved with some milk and I couldn’t eat another 😆

I had my teenage GSs here for 2 days during the holidays. I live alone so do not have masses of food on tap, but I prepared enough for an army thinking there would be stuff left over for me after they had gone - huh! - a vain hope! They hoovered up every shred. They are both pretty skinny so where does it go!!??

They would eat everything I gave them then be sniffing around for some cereal an hour later!

FurForksSake · 23/09/2025 10:06

It’s amazing, isn’t it?! He was quite fussy when he was little but now loves spicy food and is even considering culinary school instead of uni. The volume is just astounding.

This morning he just had the three. And at least left me a dribble of milk for my porridge. I chose not to have weetabix to save them for him.

He asked for coco pops for next week, he must think I’m a millionaire!

odd boy, be wakes up at 6.30 eats breakfasts in front of cartoons in the kitchen and then goes back to bed till 7.30, washed dresses and leaves the house for 7.55 😆

Teen boys are a breed apart.

mine once at a domino’s large pizza and then asked for pudding.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 10:27

It’s amazing isn’t it? Where does it go? What are their bodies doing with it all? How big are their stomachs? 😆

I pimped my weetabix by adding a teaspoon of banana nesquik to the milk. Maybe you could do that with chocolate flavour rather than buy cocopops?

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 10:45

I had salted caramel protein powder in my porridge this morning. I will suggest he shoves some chocolate powder in his weetabix.

i do buy coco pops in the holidays but he’d do a box in two days. A big box.

Mm, salted caramel porridge sounds nice. Gonna try that!

Doggymummar · 24/09/2025 10:57

I would have four, with sugar so thick it left teeth marks. I would think a teen would have three or four. We have full fat milk which would be cold. Hot milk makes them soggy.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 11:07

Soggy is good!

someone I know puts butter and jam on them and no milk!

i remember in one house we had as a child we had open fires and no central heating. Winter mornings with metal framed windows in the 1980s was perishingly cold. We’d have porridge with evaporated milk and Demerara sugar on it. I can still remember the taste.

half inch of butter on top bloody gorgeous!!

BrunchBarBandit · 24/09/2025 11:18

My year 8 DS has 6 weetabix daily for breakfast. He has done for about 5 years now. He has ASD and very few safe foods and the Paediatrician is ok with this given the other eating issues.

He does bloomin enormous poos though.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 24/09/2025 11:25

Yes, weetabix poos are a thing. 😬

Ellie56 · 24/09/2025 11:29

When my eldest was a teenager he regularly polished off 6 weetabix carefully positioned Jenga style and swimming in a a bowlful of milk.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 11:31

Is this going to become a poo knife thread? 😆

weetabix has got so expensive, the m&s one seems fine. But I might get some from Aldi at the rate he’s going.

I did say to him this morning he’d be healthy of bowel!

I think their insane metabolism just quickly rushes it through their body quickly taking what it needs for all those body changes. I do remember my male friends on the toilet all the time 🤣

blankcanvas3 · 24/09/2025 11:38

My DS is 16 and he could eat for England. He could easily do 10 weetabix, on Sunday he had a full roast dinner at about 2 and at 7pm we had a Dominos delivery man knocking on our door with a large pizza and 2 sides for him. He ate it all. He’s very active and not overweight so I just leave him to it.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 11:39

It’s weird i grew up with sisters and went to an all girls school. I didn’t know any boys growing up, maybe a cousin I’d see at Christmas. As a teen girl eating was not the done thing 😆

he’s also got a thing for easy peelers at the moment, he only likes plain crisps and he’s not a chocolate fiend. So it could be worse!

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 11:40

@blankcanvas3 that’s impressive!

I heartily recommend it! Puts meat on the bones 😆

Haha OP just wait. Your son is only 12. When he’s 16/17/18 that will look like amateur hour. Their capacity for food in late teens is mind boggling.

Mine puts away incredible amounts but is still a normal weight. He’s over 6 foot and goes to the gym 3/4 times a week plus walks miles so he’s obviously burning it all off but seriously. His (several a day) snacks are like main meals, he would have double my quantity at mealtimes then be back looking for something else within an hour.

Im just glad I only have one to feed!

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 12:17

He’s destined to be a short arse, so that might help me?!

His “little” brother is almost taller than him and is 2.5 years younger. He’s nine and has size 6.5 feet.

OP posts:
BarnacleBeasley · 24/09/2025 12:20

My toddler once ate 5, so I can believe that an older boy could totally eat 10.

FurForksSake · 24/09/2025 12:22

@BarnacleBeasley did that produce a brown periscope of a poop!?
