“Once I had ten”

secondary age kids are a different breed, right? I checked in on ds1 12, about his breakfast. He had had 4 weetabix and a banana. I exclaimed a little about eating 4, and he informed me that one time this year he ate 10. 10 weetabix, well wheat biscuits I buy own brand.

how many weetabix could your kids eat? He’s not overweight and he’s pretty active, we only have semi skimmed milk and he probably didn’t eat again until his packed lunch.

ive just had two that I microwaved with some milk and I couldn’t eat another 😆

Scrap the Weetabix, too easy to eat and give them all Shredded Wheat.

Think ALDI sell their own cheaper version.

With the money you save. Buy some really nice chocolate. Eat all of it in front of the kids and don't give them any.

Problem solved.

FurForksSake · 25/09/2025 22:45

I bought him 36 wheat biscuits in Aldi this morning, but you’re right he will eat shredded wheats but I’ve never known him binge it 😆

He’s making chocolate eclairs from scratch this weekend, I told him I was looking forward to trying one and he tells me they are all for him. He’s kidding but given half a chance 😆😆

We’ve just got an automatic cat feeder that releases portioned amounts, I need one for the kids.

Also, both mine get home from school and remove all their clothes besides their pants. If you are lucky they’ll shove a dressing gown on. They have onesies and pjs and joggers and comfy clothes, but they just like being in their pants.

Teenage boys are eating machines.

My 12 year old was eating a mountain of cereal so I suggested he switch to something more filling. I always eat fruit and yoghurt for breakfast in the summer so he wanted to try that. Unfortunately he's decided that the greek yoghurt I buy isn't tasty enough so I bought a couple of those big pots of The Collective thinking he'd get a few breakfasts out of each.
He ate a full one in one morning - they're three quid! He likes to throw raspberries, blueberries and almond butter on top with a sprinkle of granola so I reckon about a fiver a portion 🫣
Thank goodness porridge season is nearly back!

FurForksSake · 25/09/2025 23:08

Ha! These little gourmet monsters 😆

I stick a scoop of protein powder into my porridge after it’s cooked and I’ll direct him that way.

The amount of peanut butter (the posh stuff that’s not got anything but nuts and a whisper of salt) I get through is obscene. I buy it in the big plastic tubs and decant it. DS2 looks like he’s plastering a blinking wall not spreading toast!

When I had 3 teen boys at home it was interesting. We kept 5 hens in the garden and my youngest would be found making a concoction of 3 peppers and six scrambled eggs 30 minutes before our main meal.
The first time I expressed my alarm that he wouldn’t eat his dinner, HA that never happened. The 3 of them would have eating competitions at parties and places that have a all you can eat approach.
one Christmas the youngest went to his girlfriends for Christmas lunch and then had a full Christmas dinner with us too.
All happily grew up healthy 😊

TonTonMacoute · 26/09/2025 09:11

The mantra of the teenage boy:

Is there anything to eat mum, I’m starving…

(heavy emphasis on the word starving)

FurForksSake · 26/09/2025 09:35

Interestingly we’ve only ever been to an all you can eat once, and it was an Indian buffet at a local curry house. I am intrigued at taking him elsewhere to see how he does 😆

own brands do tend to be smaller than Brand name ones. I usually have 3 Tesco's, but yes, 4 if I am very hungry! once they have milk on they turn to mush anyway

FurForksSake · 26/09/2025 11:13

i might try and direct him todwards eggs, but to be fair the weetabix is probably cheaper!

two weetabix is like 135 calories, nothing wrong with having 4!
