Oh wise ones, I need help and didn't know where else to turn!!

Back in the 90s my mum used to make pork in a BBQ sauce. It was delicious and I'd love to recreate it but can't remember it fully. I've tried to guess it a bit but it's not right, so I must be getting something wrong.

I've tried googling but almost everything is a BBQ pulled pork recipe, but it wasn't like that. It was chunks of pork cooked in a quite runny BBQ sauce, served with mash or rice and loads of the sauce. The sauce definitely had tomato puree, vinegar, thyme and honey. Possibly beef stock

Any ideas? My mouth waters at the memory of it, but my mum's not around to ask any more x

What cut of pork do you think?
If it was chunky it might not be shoulder if slow cooked?

Could the meat have been pork sausages? I've made Red Sausage. Sausages, place in casserole dish, thinly sliced onion over top than dump a can of tomatoes over that. I
would add cut up carrot and even a cut up potato.

90s? Try all of the homepride sauces! Or a Schwartz packet mix

Thanks, but no, none of them. It definitely wasn't from a packet, I remember mum cooking it from scratch.
Any other suggestions?

I got married in 1982 and have got old cook books!
If the pork was in pieces and not soft like pulled, then I guess she used pork loin steaks, fillet or chops cut up.
Closest I can find is from The complete colour cookbook (1977!)
All the old recipes I found use sugar not honey so of course your mum could have created her own recipe.

This one is fry the meat (says chops) and remove from pan.
Gently fry 2 chopped onions until soft
Add 2 tbsp each of water, tomato puree, soft brown sugar, vinegar.
1 tsp made mustard, 1 tsp worc sauce. Pinch of dried mixed herbs
Bring to boil, replace the meat and simmer for 15 minutes

Your mum clearly added more liquid to make a proper sauce
Other suggestion would be to look for old sweet and sour sauce recipes?
