I'll survive without getting this checked out right?

Last night a hot water bottle decided to throw its entire freshly boiled contents at me. The pictures are the results, I've not been to get it checked but I am a bit worried.
I'll be ok right?

I think you're OK, it's blistered but doesn't look too angry. It'll hurt like a bitch for a few days but as long as no infection, it'll heal up fine. All they'll do at A&E is dress it and you can buy burn dressings anyway.

MaryGreenhill · 20/09/2025 20:39

I did a very similar injury @Nopicplease l kept it covered with a sterile non adhesive dressing and it healed beautifully. Good luck 🤞

Nopicplease · 20/09/2025 20:39

Thanks thats pretty much what I thought. My wrist hurts like a bitch but the big blistery one doesn't hurt at all which surprised me. I've burnt my boob as well which has blistered but again isn't sore at all.

Scalds (or burns) affecting hands, feet, face or genitals should always be checked out.

As should scalds elsewhere covering more than 5% of the body (1% is approx a palm size).

maybe time to swap the hot water bottle for something like this
https://amzn.eu/d/fqm9RI9

They rage about 1/4 to charge up, then they stay warm for a few hours.

Oh for sure, the hot water bottle has gone into the bin!

Did you do any first aid at the time? Run the scalded areas under cold water for 20 mins?
I think getting it checked out will aid the healing process, especially for the blistered areas.

starmoonsun · 20/09/2025 20:57

Get some burn gel or burn gel plasters. Keep putting that on and it should be fine.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/09/2025 20:57

The fact you can't feel the pain and it's actually quite a large area means you do need to get it checked, please see someone tomorrow.

iamme21 · 20/09/2025 20:58

The fact 5hat it doesn’t hurt is a bit worrying, this means it’s not just a surface burn but has gone deeper and there may be nerve damage. I think I would get checked out

Nopicplease · 20/09/2025 20:58

I ran it under cold water for about 3 hours on and off trying to get all the different bits. I didn't realise the boob was burnt so that didn't get any cold water, and its definitely worse for it.

Get it seen. I did similar with a Tommy Tippee flask of boiled water and the one on the top of my hand took months to heel. The skin is thin there.

Italiangreyhound · 20/09/2025 21:20

I'd get it seen.

janehopper · 20/09/2025 21:24

I wouldn't bother. It's not like they can do anything now. I spilled boiling coffee down my front and burnt my boobs, had red marks for ages but they went away eventually.

Hedgerowbustle · 21/09/2025 15:47

I've been told previously you can use cling flim on burns- saves getting anything stuck to the blister, but might want to check that out. Apparently contact with the air is what makes them sting more. Get it seen if any signs of infection, otherwise 111 for advice if worried.

Balloonhearts · 21/09/2025 16:13

If it doesn't hurt, that's a bit more concerning. I'd go and get that checked in that case.

DanishPastry45 · 21/09/2025 16:58

I had similar - fell asleep with a really hot water bottle on my ankle and woke up to a huge blister - thought it would heal itself, alas it got infected and I had to go to dr and have the HUGE scab taken off (BLEUGH), get dressing changed every day for a week, put patches on it and wear a bandage for 4 months. Have been left with a big scar on the front of my foot.

morethanspice · 21/09/2025 17:22

Because you can’t feel pain I think it could be a deeper scald and I think you should be checked out.

Ohmygodthepain · 21/09/2025 17:48

If it doesn't hurt that's actually a REALLY bad sign that the burn is deep and the nerves have been damaged.
As pp say, anything over a certain size needs checking over pronto. Call 111 at least, or head to minor injuries if you have one locally.

Please do get it checked out though. You have deep burns over a large area.

MeAndMyGhost · 21/09/2025 18:57

Ouch Op, that looks sore, poor thing.

If you can get your hands on Mebo, it's great stuff for burns and works to repair the area without leaving a scar.

Hedgerowbustle · 21/09/2025 23:20

Hope you're doing okay OP - did you get checked out?

Nopicplease · 23/09/2025 18:22

I've been nagged into coming to get it checked out today, blisters started coming up so I'm at our minor injuries as my GP doesn't deal with burns.

Ouch! Glad you're getting checked over.

Ooo that looks so sore. Glad you’re getting checked out x

Nopicplease · 23/09/2025 20:56

I have antibiotics and some lovely dressings. Nurse wasn't overly worried and said she didn't think it warranted a plastics referral but she would if I wanted her to which I didn't so hopefully should be on the way to healing soon.
