Fundraising ideas please - Scouts

My son is taking part in a trip and each individual scout needs to do fund raising to add to the kitty to bring the overall costs down.

I keep thinking about things and ruling them out. Anyone done similar and could suggest some ideas? We have the ability to use the scout hut free of charge.

Sponsored stuff - walk, run, swim, silence

ask supermarkets if you can bag pack near Christmas

run a tuck shop after school one day

sell bacon rolls at parkrun

MidnightPatrol · 20/09/2025 13:24

How old is he, and how much are you looking to raise?

Teachingagain · 20/09/2025 13:24

Odd jobs, washing cars, sweeping up leaves.

Football cards or similar are always good as people don’t mind chucking a couple of pounds on something that they have a chance to win on.

There’s no fixed amount, we just need to show willing basically. He is 13.

I’m joining this thread as Ive recently agreed to join the scout committee so am here to steal ideas. Pretty much all of mine involve piggy backing onto something else so Santa day have a tombola stall (Christmas fair same thing) I was thinking about a car wash that would involve the dc working. Pack a bag at supermarket.

Another thought was a make a wreath pack/ session. I have a willow in the garden and could make a batch of willow rings. Forage for greenery / berries / pine cones and invite folk along a session where they make their own or provide packs.

if you can use the hut how about a movie night for beavers / cubs. Kids pay a couple of quid and it’s some babysitting - offering a service rather than begging always goes down well in our district

I like the idea of bacon rolls at parkrun - no one obliged to give then

If the group does any community events like bonfire or a Christmas fair, a group of Scouts could run something like a tombola or cake stall.

@Tiredofwhataboutery for your group... have they seen the link to apply for free tents from Go Outdoors?

That’s a good idea!!!

I like the idea of offering a service. Something like a craft activity where the kids pay to make something perhaps.

Where is the trip? Could a small group of them get together and be sponsored to run/walk/cycle the distance on a treadmill or exercise bike?

craft ideas are quite nice as it feels less like begging. I think people are quite sponsored out by the time dc are in high school on paying for jollies. I also liked the idea of movie night. Bring a cushion then a film and a bowl of popcorn for £3 per child / £5 per family? We pay for the scout hall but I’m stealing it for guides.

Wrong season - but one to remember - putting up marquees for school fetes , car parking at village shows etc etc, things that are useful - good for local reputation as well as direct fundraising

RuthEvershedforPM · 20/09/2025 17:41

When I was a bit older than your son and had first aid etc I offered babysitting to beaver parents - was vaguely trusted due to being a venture

Blinkingbother · 20/09/2025 17:52

If you have time to play with then sell bunches of mistletoe at Christmas (if you can find someone with lots growing in their garden!).
