For me it was The Bodyguard & I was really surprised as I love the soundtrack & Whitney.. It was ok but I thought it would blow me away & it didn’t. Maybe some things just work.better on the big screen.

We Will Rock You - awful.
i can’t think of the name of it but the one that is set in the French Revolution that they made into a film? Just grim.

Icequeen01 · 20/09/2025 08:46

Years ago we saw the musical The Waitress. The audience seemed to be loving it but DH and I sat there looking at each other like WTF is this. Awful musical.

We Will Rock You. So bad. It really lowered the bar, and other pretty poor things now seem brilliant in comparison.

Oh yes, that was dreadful.

I saw Cats and Starlight Express years ago and whilst they were ok, I wasn’t as impressed as I’d hoped I be.
Have seen Grease (years ago) in London which was excellent and then went to a touring show in my home town fairly recently and it wasn’t a patch on it.
I absolutely love Joseph And His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and have seen it more times than I care to remember!
It’s a shame that some of these shows don’t live up to expectations because the tickets aren’t cheap!

Hamilton. I couldn’t wait for it to be over!

Quite agree! It was fun to watch but the “rewrite of history” undertones reversing the UK and American roles in ending slavery was galling!

AuntyBulgaria · 20/09/2025 08:59

@MarmaladeSandwich7
Many moons ago (and we're talking 10 years plus) my partner was in the Bodyguard and he was bored acting in it. - too much of a one women concert then a musical.

Clawdy · 20/09/2025 09:00

Phantom of the Opera - quite enjoyed it, but wouldn't watch again. Got friends who have seen it several times, we all have different tastes!

Superhansrantowindsor · 20/09/2025 09:02

Hamilton. Perhaps because people raved about it so much I had expectations that were too high.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 20/09/2025 09:03

Oh how can I forget the absolute atrocity that was Viva Forever? It was SOOOOOO bad

wr genuinely discussed leaving at the interval but cos it had been so expensive I insisted we stayed. We bumped into a group of girls in the bar who said “we’re gonna get pissed, it’s the only way to cope with this shit show”

it closed about 2 weeks later

NooNakedJacuzziness · 20/09/2025 09:04

Another vote for Wicked. I thought the first half was okaaay but the second half was so boring. Also Mama Mia but I went years ago and didn’t realise it had nothing to do with Abba!

hels71 · 20/09/2025 09:06

I loved Cats!!!
However, The Lion King failed to impress...apart from the costumes.

Lampzade · 20/09/2025 09:06

I fell asleep during Wicked . It was boring AF

Hamilton. I couldn’t wait for it to be over!

I loved Hamilton . I have watched it three times

Summersend4 · 20/09/2025 09:07

Wicked - I had teen boys with me - they were so bored . Starlight express the second incarnation just nowhere near as majgical as the first one

RosaBaby2 · 20/09/2025 09:08

Another vote for Disney's Aladdin. It's a panto.

sarahwarah11 · 20/09/2025 09:10

The devil wears Prada... Just people strutting around the stage in different outfits and high heels. Boring

DollyMixers · 20/09/2025 09:11

Hated Six, and Shrek

sugarapplelane · 20/09/2025 09:13

Wicked
Phantom of the Opera
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

All really dull when I expected a whole lot more

I can’t see how Wicked and Phantom are universally loved.

Shangrilalala · 20/09/2025 09:18

Aspects of Love

All I took away from that was a sore bum.

Bingbangboo · 20/09/2025 09:20

The Lion King - don't know if it was the angle of our view but I couldn't get past they were just people dancing round in big masks.

Dirty Dancing - can't remember who was playing Baby but she played the role really sexy. The whole point was that she wasn't traditionally 'sexy'.

socks1107 · 20/09/2025 09:22

Cats. It was awful and the sound terrible the night we went

Les Miserables?

I hated that one too. And Phantom. Didn't mind Cats though, so it can't be all ALW musicals for me!

JellyRollBlues · 20/09/2025 09:23

Saw the original production of Starlight Express and hated it. It still gives me shudders now, and I can't believe it's being restaged.
