For me it was The Bodyguard & I was really surprised as I love the soundtrack & Whitney.. It was ok but I thought it would blow me away & it didn’t. Maybe some things just work.better on the big screen.

Shrek was the worst for us closely followed by Sister Act and although I liked Mary Poppins (as grew up watching it), the kids did not.

Top 3 are:

  1. Six
  2. Mamma Mia
  3. Matilda

We actually loved Wicked on stage, but not the film!

SockQueen · 20/09/2025 07:22

Wicked as well. Saw it years ago, long before the film, my sister had raved about it, but I was just a bit... meh. The story didn't grab me, and a lot of the music just seemed to be belting stuff out. Not terrible, but not as amazing as expected.

Wicked
Matilda

Just seen Hercules...it's a panto without the Dame.
When Andrew Lloyd Webber did Cinderella a few years back...not as a Christmas panto either. Omg it was truly truly dire

Mikart · 20/09/2025 07:25

Cats
Shrek
A Chorus Line

We will rock you, & Juliet, Starlight express.

Coffeeandcrochet · 20/09/2025 07:26

We Will Rock You and Bat Out Of Hell - in both cases great music and great performers totally let down by the unmitigated shite 'story' flung together around them. I wasn't expecting Stoppard or Pinter but something better than distractingly awful would have been nice.

Surreyblah · 20/09/2025 07:27

Wicked. Awful music! Just not a patch on Wizard of Oz. Did enjoy the film though.

DramaLlamacchiato · 20/09/2025 07:27

Didn’t hate it but found Moulin Rouge a bit underwhelming

Ipperdipperdation · 20/09/2025 07:30

Hamilton and Starlight Express. Don't get the hype at all!

pastapestoparmesan · 20/09/2025 07:32

The Lion King and Charlie and the chocolate factory - both underwhelmed me.

MrsALambert · 20/09/2025 07:33

Dream girls
sister act
wicked

staringatthesun · 20/09/2025 07:35

Cats remains the only show I've walked out of. Dreadful!

probablyabadidea · 20/09/2025 07:36

Aladdin - would've been fine as a local panto but not at West End prices.

JollyJolene · 20/09/2025 07:37

Pretty Woman - same script as the film but the songs were average and there was no chemistry between the two main characters. Very underwhelming.

Hercules is on our list of want to see musicals!

We also saw Cinderella before it got pulled. I liked it but again, the kids didn't. The revolving stage was different.

Oh I really want to see this if it's ever on locally to me. Was annoyed when it left the West End, so this is good to know 😉

Oh god, I’m seeing Wicked soon and this has confirmed my worst fears about it! It wasn’t my choice!

2021x · 20/09/2025 07:41

Wicked- didn’t really get the hype.

I agree with this. When the opera scene came on you realised how bad the music was in the rest of the show because suddenly you had excellent music, so it felt really jarring.

i saw grease in 2022, it wasn’t great. They went back to the original grease (predating the movie) so it wasn’t even T birds. My dd was so confused!

ResusciAnnie · 20/09/2025 07:42

Hadestown! Gutted because I loved the music and went to see the show right when it opened in the UK as was so keen.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 20/09/2025 07:45

Son of a preacher man - absolutely hated it!

captainflash · 20/09/2025 07:46

Wicked was boring. Other than Defying Gravity, I couldn’t name a single song after watching it.

Back to the Future. Technically amazing but the songs were dire. There’s nothing I remember about it at all.

Moulin Rouge- leave the film alone!! It is one of my favourite films but I hated how they sanitised the show. Christian was dreary, they mucked around with the good songs and the duke seemed like a good option really. Was really disappointed by it.

I love Hamilton though. Heathers was surprisingly good. Clueless was weak song wise. And I was very surprised when we saw an Australian one called Fangirls in Hammersmith. That was such fun!

Mabiscuit · 20/09/2025 07:49

I left Moulin Rouge at the interval because I found it boring.
