For me it was The Bodyguard & I was really surprised as I love the soundtrack & Whitney.. It was ok but I thought it would blow me away & it didn’t. Maybe some things just work.better on the big screen.

I’m desperate to see moulin rouge but can’t justify the cost, so almost glad to hear some people saying they didn’t like it!

I think there's a lottery that's how we got ours or look on today's tix they might be on a scheme called 'rush'

I should be so lucky - to be fair I didn’t expect much from but even so it was so bad I left at the interval and it was a struggle to stay that long.

wicked I think I nodded off - that was one my kids wanted to see and so I took them. I think I may have enjoyed it more had I seen the film first as I actually understood a little of the storyline then.

to the op I had opposite experience of Hamilton - took my daughters recently and I had no interest in seeing it, had turned off after 20 minutes of the Disney plus recording but I actually really enjoyed it.

Gosh yes I should be so lucky was truly awful!! Never made it to the west end - i wonder why. We got free tickets with the newspaper!

Haha, I was thinking the same - I've seen and loved loads mentioned on this thread. Wicked being one. Also enjoyed &Juliet. Six is probably my favourite though and Cabaret. There are very few musicals I haven't enjoyed

Yes Six is a favourite here too - we’ve seen it several times and the soundtrack is rarely off in this house.

I’m with the Hamilton crew. So hyped up. The actors looked bored of doing the same thing over and over. I was bored.

Devil Wears Prada

Omg, just read this as Devil Wears Panda. 😆 wondering what the storyline for that show would be?

mamagogo1 · 20/09/2025 08:15

Didn’t enjoy dear Evan Hansen but i think I was just the wrong demographic, my DD’s loved it. Favourite one in last few years is Come from Away, amazing musical and they resisted trying to make it longer, I liked the one long act format. I’m tempted to take a cruise on Cunard just to see it again as it’s being performed on board for a season

JollyHostess101 · 20/09/2025 08:18

Grease a couple of years ago…… was utter rubbish!!

And Miss Saigon wasn’t as great as I imagined but that might of been because I was stuck up in the gods next to an utter twat who talked all the way through!

CrowMate · 20/09/2025 08:19

Another for Hamilton. I’d have walked early had my DC not loved it.

Oganesson118 · 20/09/2025 08:21

Sister Act. Went to see it with my mum on a whim and it was just boring with rubbish songs. Glad it was just a whim really and not something we had looked forward
to for months!

HamSandwichKiller · 20/09/2025 08:22

Shrek, it felt like such a waste of money I refused to to the theatre for 6 months. The Lion King, I was expecting to be wowed but the story is so familiar I was bored (not helped by an audio issue that meant the production halted for 15 minutes in an already long show)

Alltheprettyseahorses · 20/09/2025 08:22

&Juliet - sub Take A Break magazine nonsense. I felt a bit sorry for Romeo tbh because he literally didn't do anything wrong yet was treated like an idiotic villain by the purportedly feminist mates, but as for the supposed enby lad friend who (spoiler alert) snogged and stole her fiance on the eve of her 2nd wedding don't even get me going 🤬. Plus, don't try to preach to me about how men would like to go in women's toilets okay?

Beauty and the Beast - yes I know it's a musical but far too much singing and dancing. It takes special talent to be able to ruin Be Our Guest but they managed it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - just didn't work. Everyone in the theatre got really excited when the Oompa-Loompa music started until these silver robot characters came out instead.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - the most self-indulgent nonsense I have ever seen. No I do not want to watch what felt like 6 hours of a train puppet being taken round the stage while the cast stood in darkness singing We'll Meet Again. Stripped every bit of charm from the book - Mr Beaver's vegan hotpot instead of freshly-caught fish? Really? Very slightly redeemed by the Wicked-style wicked witch ending to the first half which was the only reason we didn't go home in the interval but maybe we should have.

Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty - not a musical but still awful. You could really tell the dancers weren't classically trained says lumbering me but then I don't charge £45 a ticket to watch me lurch round the stage.

The touring version of Shrek has gone seriously downhill in terms of puppetry and staging which is a shame because the actors are generally phenomenally good and it's not fair on them.

There are probably loads more cos we go to the theatre a lot but they're the standouts, or the opposite. On the other hand I loved Hamilton when it came to Liverpool and wish we'd gone more often (not so much in London oddly), I wasn't looking forward to DD's choice of Moulin Rouge but thought it was brilliant and loved the theatre design and DD's favourite is Six so it's a good job I enjoy it too because we've seen and will keep seeing it a lot.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 20/09/2025 08:23

Really didn’t enjoy The Lion King or Wicked, even though I saw Idina Menzel as Elphaba. I loved the film version though.
Percy Jackson was also a disappointment & if it hadn’t been DDs favourite book I’d have left at the interval.
I loved Six, but I saw it at the Arts Theatre which is small & (IMO) better for the show.
Choir of Man was my surprise hit. I loved it & have seen it 3 times! Benjamin Button is also beautiful.

AgnesMcDoo · 20/09/2025 08:23

Hamilton, Lion King and Starlight Express did not live up to the hype

Candleabra · 20/09/2025 08:24

Wicked

They've made the performing licence available for Come From Away so a lot of amateur groups around the country are doing it. We saw it in Preston a couple of weeks ago and the bar scene was phenomenal, even better than the official tour imo.

Needlenardlenoo · 20/09/2025 08:29

Come From Away was wonderful!

FlamingoQueen · 20/09/2025 08:30

Miss Saigon - the only show I seriously considered walking out of in the interval. I didn’t, but only in case it improved. It didn’t!

TammyJones · 20/09/2025 08:31

unmp · 20/09/2025 06:29

Wicked felt like a waste of money, overly complicated storyline which could have been summed up in 30mins

Not seen the staged version, though my friend has ‘twice’
But was very disappointed wit the first film - maybe the second one will be better.

Anoone · 20/09/2025 08:32

Elf!
The worst show I have ever seen and so expensive. Don’t waste your money - far better things to spend money on at Christmas.

Wicked.
Didn’t get the hype over something I thought was ok-ish.

squashyhat · 20/09/2025 08:32

The most recent west end production of Oklahoma. Yes it's a dark story when you analyse it but they really majored on that and all the joy was sucked out of it. A lot of the audience left at the interval.

I have resisted Hamilton for all these years but my local cinema is showing the original Broadway production next week so I have succumbed. I hope I don't regret it.

FlamingoQueen · 20/09/2025 08:33

There are also a few that I’ve seen twice when I’ve not liked the original, but then loved the new version - Charlie and the chocolate factory, Cats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Evita (years ago, not the new one). The Lion King was amazing singing but a boring show.
There are however lots of amazing shows!

Greenfingers37 · 20/09/2025 08:35

We will rock you. Utter shite.

AutumnLover1989 · 20/09/2025 08:40

Thriller live. Like watching a load of karaoke singers and impressionists😬

Happyhettie · 20/09/2025 08:41

Hamilton - thought I’d die of boredom
Whistle down the wind - very uninspiring
We will rock you - fucking awful. Possibly the worst thing I have ever seen at the theatre.
