I've already vented in real life but I'm still trying to talk myself down.
So, at lunchtime today I was driving (alone) from one small rural primary school where I teach to an even smaller rural primary school where I also teach. The second village is basically in the middle of nowhere and the only roads in are very narrow, winding single-track roads with few passing places.
I don't hang about when driving but I'm not an idiot so I don't belt down those little roads, especially because quite often there's a tractor coming round the corner (it's farming central!)
It takes me about 20 minutes to drive between these two schools. I turn off the last "main" road on to the tiny winding lane which takes me the last 2 miles to village 2.
Almost at once I become aware of a motorbike which has joined the lane right behind me and is driving RIGHT up my back bumper. My rear view mirror is full of him. He follows on my bumper all the way down 2 miles of twisting lane.
I could (just about) have pulled over in a farm gateway and let him get past, but I wasn't driving slowly, just at a sensible pace for the road, and he didn't honk his horn or look like he was trying to get past, just stuck behind me a bit too close for comfort. I kept going and certainly didn't slow down or do anything to look like I was deliberately holding him up. We didn't meet any other traffic on the way.
I get to the village and drive through the village centre. He's still behind me. I get to the school and turn in to the little staff parking area which is right underneath classroom windows.
Motorbike guy follows me off the road, into the school parking area and stops next to me. As soon as I open my car door he ERUPTS! "Fucking bitch, why the fuck didn't you let me get past you, stupid fucking bitch etc etc."
I was just in shock but said (in firm teacher voice) "Please stop shouting at me", but this has no effect, he just gets in my face, pointing a finger, shouting, swearing etc.
A workman who was just at the front of the school building fixing something came over and said, "Oi, mate, what's your problem?" and I said, "Please stop shouting and swearing, you're right outside school and children might hear you."
No effect. Still ranting. I picked up my stuff and went quickly into the building (door only opens with my fob) so I could get away from him. In hindsight I should have got his bike registration but I was too shaken up. Walked into the headteacher who could see how upset I was and made me a cup of tea!
Found it really hard teaching this afternoon as I kept thinking about it. When I left the building at end of school I was quite glad to see he hadn't damaged my car but I suppose the workman put him off.
Why are these middle aged men like this???
