Bed bugs .. anyone in the know?

I had someone visit me a month ago and just found out they have infestation of bed bugs at their home. They just sat in the sofa for couple hours. I am absolutely in a panic. I have no signs and no bites but is it really likely that could have transported. I have been googling and it seems they can live for a year in some sort of hibernation. Please, does anyone have any experience and am I about to be overrun with them? I have sofa covers and have hot washed them and I vacuum regularly. I feel I am going to live with bed bugs anxiety for the next year

There are a few things you can do, you can get your house treated either a chemical or heat treatment but this is only if you have them confirmed, they are tiny.

You can get sniffer dogs that can identify if they are present - might be an idea ?

It’s really unlikely, especially given you’ve washed the sofa covers and vacuum regularly. Bed bugs don’t enter hibernation in warm houses with people in.

Wash all the soft furnishings you can then use a really good flea spray to spray the soft furnishings you cant wash, one of those that last 6-12 months. If you still end up getting bed bugs then obviously you'll have to get the professionals in but if there's only a couple the flea spray should zap them.
