Right wing cancel culture at it again.

This really is a scary time for free speech.

Another example right wing hypocrisy when it comes to free speech:

Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspended indefinitely after host’s Charlie Kirk comments https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/sep/18/jimmy-kimmel-live-suspended-indefinitely-after-hosts-charlie-kirk-comments?CMP=share_btn_url

Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspended indefinitely after host’s Charlie Kirk comments

ABC says late-night show will not air for foreseeable future after Kimmel accused Republicans of ‘doing everything they can to score political points’ from Kirk’s killing

What do you mean 'far right?

Are you just responding to snippets given to you by the media like so many are?

Literally listening to the radio this morning..?

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 18/09/2025 09:45

Where have I said that? Oh wait.

Fact is we don’t actually know whether Charlie Kirk was murdered for his views or not, and frankly all that matters is that he was murdered, which isn’t defensible regardless of the motives.

But the fact is that if he hadn’t held those views, nobody would actually have cared when he was killed. It would just have been another “someone got shot in America newsflash. You know, like the school shooting which happened on the same day which nobody cared about because they’re ten a penny.

Except now nobody is allowed to acknowledge the views which Charlie Kirk held, he has now been all but sainted, regardless of the fact that he has been quoting passages from the bible stating that gays should be stoned to death, or advocating for the victims of rape to be made to carry the children of that rape rather than have an abortion.

But apparently pointing that out means that you’re celebrating his death? How exactly?

I can only assume that the people jumping up and down accusing others of celebrating Charlie Kirk’s murder hold those same views. Because nobody who didn’t would be reacting in that way.

Oh my gosh, this is extraordinary.

The "stoning gays" has been debunked several times already, even that idiot Stephen King had to apologise.

Whatever feed/SM bubble you're in, it's telling you lie, after lie.

Okay MAGA shill

Increasingly bonkers.

You're one of the "everyone who doesn't agree with me is a Nazi" crowd.

I get it.

Right wing cancel culture at it again

Isn't it glorious?

Some people decided to burn down cities and attack people, the right can't do that, we've got jobs to go to, so we do it from the comfort of our home.

Sure, the right don't attack people and Jan 6 was a picnic lunch.

Namitynamename · 18/09/2025 09:48

ColdSalads · 18/09/2025 09:31

Kimmel was an ally to the movement to cancel people.

Evidence please? I can't find any.

Letting men (TWANW) into women’s changing rooms etc puts all women and children at risk. An entirely unnecessary new risk, for no valid reason.

This is on top of the other concerns you mention, not instead.

Yep, and nothing makes my eyes roll harder when posters continually state ‘anti-trans’ obsession, cesspit, blah blah when it’s anti men. MEN. In women’s spaces and sports. Or else trans men would be a problem too. They are not.

Anti men being able to say they are literal women. Backed up by the far left and it’s why many women are not voting for parties aligning with this (Labour, SNP etc). It’s a women’s rights issue.

And yes, you do have to ‘know what a woman is’ to tackle issues women and only women face, and not men larping as one backed up by the ‘I’m so kind and liberal’ brigade. Women can care about defending their rights to single sex spaces/sports and ALSO care about all the other concerns mentioned.

Rabid trans activism is a men’s rights movement in plain sight and it’s relevant here as Tyler Robinson was in a relationship with a trans woman.

Dear The Far Liberal Left:

The genie is out of the bottle, people aren't afraid anymore, people won't put up with fantasies or nonsense anymore.

The names you call us don't work either.

Good luck.

What do you mean 'far right?

Are you just responding to snippets given to you by the media like so many are?

All of those who were involved in trying to overturn the 2020 election - including prominent influences who bussed in protestors on Jan 6 - are/were far right.

That, obviously, includes Charlie Kirk.

MsTanyaMcQuoid · 18/09/2025 09:53

The media and entertainment (especially comedy) industry have always had a remit, some may even call it a social responsibility, to hold the government of the day to account, to ask questions and even to satirize where appropriate to draw attention to the issues of the day. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with their viewpoint or not, or who the government in power even is, that’s their job. They keep democracy open and transparent.

This isn’t about cancel culture or consequence culture or even schauenfreude. This is about the silencing - the censorship if you will - of the media if they don’t support the current administration. This is about ensuring the public don’t get to hear different perspectives about the narrative being presented by the government and people don’t get the space to make their own decisions and form their own opinions.

This is dangerous stuff. When freedom of the press is removed, propaganda begins. Keep the people in the dark and feed them crap. What comes next?

This is well and truly part of slippery slope to fascism and if you don’t realize this, you need to read up on your history. The obstinate Mumsnet obsession with putting the anti-trans agenda ahead of absolutely anything else defies logic, common sense and will be the destruction of us all.

Right wing cancel culture at it again? You mean the left can do it or decades but it's not ok if the right do it too? Hypocrisy!

Kimmel was fine with it before it impacted him.

Really hard to have any sympathy.

Free speech works if everyone is on board with it. We appear to now be in a time where people are being held to their own standards. If that costs Kimmel one of his well paid gigs, sympathy will be a bit hard to come by.

No, this is nonsense. The MSM has been left leaning for 2 decades - that's beginning to end now.

This isn't the start of fascism, it's the start of everyone becoming sane again.

How people who profess to care about free speech can fail to understand the significance of the government's role in suppressing speech vs garden-variety "cancel culture" is beyond me.

And frankly, I don't believe so many peiple are wilfully stupid. There are a lot of far-right liars and weasels equicocating right now.

Jesus Christ.

Are you not aware yet of the admission by Mark Zuckerberg that he did, indeed, help to swing that election by supressing the Hunter Biden Laptop issue and streamline Leftist Rheteric straight into people's feeds? He admitted it in a while back now. So the 'overturn the election' campaign was indeed correct in its suspicions.

In fact, he stated that they'd all been doing it. And look at the Twitter Files before you cast everyone unhappy about it as 'far right',

👏👏👏
Thank you for this.
It's bloody frightening isn't it.

Spookyspaghetti · 18/09/2025 10:00

I was reading about this. Americans have a right to free speech as long as it is right wing speech. Id never heard at Kirk before his assassination but, considering he is being lionised as a right wing Saint, surely it’s fair to say that Charlie Kirk died for Jimmy Kimmel’s right to say things about Trump without getting cancelled.

I think we are experiencing an influx of right wing trolls right now. It’s a worldwide phenomena.

The rest aren’t necessarily willfully stupid. They just have zero capacity for critical thought. They have - as the Americans like to say - drunk the Kool Aid!

The President can’t just demand someone be taken off the telly because he doesn’t like what they said about him or his mates. I don’t care which side of politics this edict comes from, it is suppression of the media.
