What is the new yellow metanium?

DD (9 months) has got some nasty nappy rash. Oldest DD never really got it and yellow metanium sorted out whatever did pop up. I was so disappointed they discontinued it.

Youngest dd however, is quite uncomfortable. She's teething and is pooing constantly, so she's being changed frequently but wiping is obviously aggravating it.

We're smothering her in weleda and have also tried child's farm but nothing seems to touch it right now. Please help!

Sudosalve is really good - small metal tube and really helped when I couldn't get metanium.

We use bepanthem as a preventer now rather than what we used to do which was metanium as a treatment (i have one precious tube left for emergencies!). But i saw a poster say that the new Ashton and Parsons spray is supposed to be as good as metanium was, so could be worth trying that as well?

When DS was tiny and we were in France, I used to use Mitosyl. I don't know if the formula is still the same, but it was pretty close to Metanium in texture, with a distinctive fish smell!

I’m not sure I’m afraid as kids are now late teens…but you’ve just given me major flashbacks to the smell of yellow metanium 😂

Helpmechooseausername · 17/09/2025 20:09

What?? They've got rid of yellow metanium?? Mine are teens now but that was they only stuff that helped when they had evil teething poos that burnt their poor little bums!!

Theunamedcat · 17/09/2025 20:12

Could it be fungal based? I remember ds getting horrendous nappy rash and nothing cleared it i finally spoke to the nurse and she said try canistan over the counter cleared it within a few days

Drapolene is magic on nappy rash. It isn't marketed much for babies these days (mainly for old people). Also good on minor burns. You can get it on Amazon.

Would suggest Sudocrem or the Expert Midwife Bum Balm. Good luck

Yellow Metanium made dd2 sore so we used Bepanthem which sorted out the rash well.

My baby recently got nasty nappy rash, and Aquaphor cleared it up overnight!

Might just be me but I hate bepantham - the texture grosses me out.

We bought Desitin on holiday in the USA and it worked amazingly well. We’ve been able to buy it online since and I swear by it for pretty much any ailment.
