Help ! Have been scammed - will they chase me ?

I can’t believe I fell for a scam.

I signed up for a 1 off beauty box thing through facebook link (I know I know ) and certainly no mention of a subscription.

they have tried to set up a subscription on my credit card. They took another payment of £6 and my card provider flagged it and have stopped the subscription and cancelled my card. They reassured me they can’t take any more payments.

Is this enough ? I can’t get the £6 back but I am not worried about that just pleased it was flagged and no more money was taken. I got an email talking about subscription in my junk I have just seen. Is the cancelling of the card enough ? I am paranoid I will be chased for a subscription I never signed up for !

I am feeling very stupid I usually am super cautious.

I'd reply to the email to say the subscription they signed you up for was not valid, and the card used for it has been cancelled.
I'd reiterate that the subscription itself is also cancelled.

I think this is a quite common thing. You buy something online but don't realise you're also signing up for an ongoing subscription.
Quite dodgy or underhand, might be worth reporting to Trading Standards if there is anything unclear on the website or if the subscription bit is buried somewhere in the Ts and Cs.

I don't think members of the public can report anything to trading standards directly anymore.

Can they chase you? No the only way to legally chase someone is with a court adjudication, and for this amount or company type is unlikely.

NewsdeskJC · 17/09/2025 12:51

I doubt that they will. They make their money from those that don't pick it up. I had one cancelled by Nationwide, never heard from them again.

Chances are the company are abroad. Do not reply to them directly, only communicate with your bank.

Thank you for the responses I am feeling a bit more comfortable now that they won’t peruse me. I can’t see them taking me to court and I may have lost a total of £8.

what a nightmare I never imagined that this would happen to me I am always super careful.
