Are your card details safe if you use G Pay to buy from a website?

I've found something (discontinued a while ago) that I really want, but from a website that I don't 100% trust - the shop it's for does exist but I suspect the website is a bit out of date and that they don't really have the item, as it's sold out everywhere and has been for months. It's a Shopify website and the only options for payment are Shop Pay or G Pay - no PayPal. It's cheap enough that I don't mind too much if it doesn't arrive (less than a fiver plus post) so I'm happy to take the risk with the money, but obviously not with my actual card details. Am I right thinking that G Pay is the safest way to pay because it doesn't actually transfer your real card details?

Again tho I am absolutely not worried about losing the fiver, that's a risk I'm willing to take! This is just about the safety of my card details.
