Lost no claims?

Like many others, during the pandemic DH and I began WFH. We're still spending half the week doing that, so for the last 5 years have been managing with only one car.

Since then DH has always insured the car and I've continued to be a named driver on his. Stupidly, I didn't realise until it was pointed out to me recently that my (over 20 years) no claims will have run out after two years without my own insurance.

Is this always the case? Would the fact that I've continually been on DH's insurance without a claim count for anything?

That's the way it is in Ireland, you lose your no claims bonus after 2 years. But you can claim as a named driver on dhs car, not sure if it's the same in the UK

We found this out too for the same reason. Now slowly rebuilding no claims discount on the second car. I'd never even realised that it was possible to lose it other than by making a claim

Same thing happened to us. Didn’t realise until it was too late. Had to go to black box insurance and start slowly building back up - also lost over a decade of no claims
