Earring hole hurts

Hi all

I wore some earrings 2 weeks ago that gave my ears an allergic reaction. One of my holes is on a wonky diagonal so is often tricky to get an earring in.

I let my ears rest but tried to get an earring in last week as didnt want them closing up, my right hole was really painful, ive not put an earring in since Friday but it still hurts a bit

Could it be infected? It's not red or puss-y or hot but it's stingy if you see what i mean

Thanks

Douse it in TCP (will make you hop a bit) or, failing that, warm salty water.

I get this sometimes. I put a bit of antiseptic cream on an earring stick so that it is pushed right inside the hole when I put the earring in, and repeat this daily until it clears up. Best to keep an earring in all the time so the hole doesn't gunk up. It usually clears in a day or so.

Get some natrasan spray (available on Amazon). It’s like a miracle cure for this.

Salt spray. I had a cellulitis once. The infection was very obvious.

I too put antiseptic cream on an earring & put it in & leave it in. Soon clears up.

germolene, even the new crappier stuff works for me (the proper stuff was better. But can no longer buy it )

Are your earrings still giving you an ongoing allergic reaction?

MrsKateColumbo · 28/09/2025 23:08

It's different earrings that caused the reaction but I think maybe they got into er sensitive and are now reacting to previously ok ones?

Should I try platinum ones for now?

Yes maybe...platinum sounds like a good shout.

I've never completely narrowed down why some earrings cause a reaction and some don't, silver is definitely hit and miss for me.
