I have been in a and e since the early morning with my granmother who has bleeding ulcer. Shes really unwell so i have been quite stressed out - i did notice my eye feeling a little itchy but ignored it. Ive just got home and my daughter has pointed out i have three spots in a perfect triangle near my eye!
what on earth have a done its starting to get really irritated now! I dont see how anythumg had bitten me abd they dont look like spots.

any ideas i feel totally overwhelemed and these itchy spots are jusy the last straw!

Could be the start of shingles?

Offredismysister · 14/09/2025 18:44

Shingles? Near the eye is serious so I’d ring 111.
Or try & get a GP appt first thing tomorrow.

Ballywas · 14/09/2025 18:45

That could well be shingles. I’d ring the out of hours just in case because if you get the antiviral you can reduce the intensity of an attack.

Shingles is not infectious unless someone actually touches the rash and has not had chickenpox. If someone gets infected they'd get chickenpox not shingles. But do get it checked out ASAP and 🤞🏻for you

Letstheriveranswer · 14/09/2025 18:50

Are they just itchy? Mosquito bites?

If it was shingles you would have pain along a nerve line

Gall10 · 14/09/2025 18:52

Flea bites…. Do you have pets?

Summerhillsquare · 14/09/2025 18:53

Hives, brought on by stress. Take some antihistamines.

27pilates · 14/09/2025 18:53

Ocular shingles

GlastoNinja · 14/09/2025 18:55

I hate to tell you but I have shingles and the rash looks just like that. It hurts like an absolute bastard, get the anti viral meds asap

AnnaMagnani · 14/09/2025 18:56

Shingles. It's dangerous near the eye so you need to be seen yourself ASAP for antiviral meds.

Not necessarily- when I had shingles, the pain didn’t start until after the rash. If you do have shingles, you need to start the antivirals within 72 hours for full effectiveness. I started on a Friday & didn’t get diagnosed until after the weekend. They gave me antivirals anyway, because, like you it was near my eye, but I’m still left with nerve damage around my eyebrow 2.5 years later.

Bluebooknumber10 · 14/09/2025 19:30

What ever it is I would get it checked out just incase its shingles. I had shingles in my eye and was left with scaring in the eye which caused sight issues and 14 years on i still have nerve damage. It was miss diagnosed so didn't get antivirals for 6 days.

BlurryEyesAndChubbyThighs · 14/09/2025 19:32

Dc had shingles and no pain. Was able to go to school just not uncover the area , ie for pe

GlastoNinja · 14/09/2025 20:16

I was told the older you are, the worse the experience is so it’s not unusual for kids to be absolutely fine with it.

hoteltango · 14/09/2025 20:57

If you call the GP, mention that you think it might be shingles, because you should get fast-tracked at least to a nurse who can diagnose and prescribe the anti-virals.

A pharmacist can diagnose shingles so that's another avenue to explore if you can't get an appointment with your GP surgery.

TotallyUninspired · 14/09/2025 21:04

it looks like peri-ocular dermatitis, which can be brought on by stress.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/09/2025 21:15

Phone 111 now, don't wait till morning. They'll get you an out of hours appointment or make a gp appointment for you for first thing if they judge it can wait.

It's the advice on the NHS website, it's what I did when I realised the 'bite' I'd noticed earlier was multiplying and my 3am googling threw up pics of shingles.

Pain wise - I had pain in my back, but the rash started on my stomach, have you got any pain anywhere on your head/neck on the same half of your body as the spots?

I doubt it's shingles or anything that requires any kind of urgent action. Just see how it is in the morning

Christwosheds · 14/09/2025 21:27

They look like insect bites to me.
I have no experience of shingles though. Can you magnify them ? A bite would have a tiny puncture mark.

You don’t know that and plenty of people here with experience saying the opposite and that the OP should take advice.
OP - I’d take advice from 111 if I were you. Hope all is ok.

MyElatedUmberFinch · 14/09/2025 21:29

Looks like little bites to me.

mummybearSW19 · 14/09/2025 21:48

Do you have any other symptoms? I’d be tempted to call 111 to explain the situation and see what they say.

oddly I woke up the other day with 3 red itchy spots on the side of my nose. Have had shingles before so briefly wondered if it had come back on my face….. however. 3 days later they have faded.

they never blistered and I didn’t have any other symptoms.

however given your fact pattern you need a medic to review.

Hope it is nothing but nasty bites.

sorry to hear your relative is so unwell.
