Ive just got home and my daughter has pointed out i have three spots in a perfect triangle near my eye!
what on earth have a done its starting to get really irritated now! I dont see how anythumg had bitten me abd they dont look like spots.

any ideas i feel totally overwhelemed and these itchy spots are jusy the last straw!

If you ring up your doctor's surgery and try to make an appointment to be seen for shingles, they might ask you to go to a pharmacist instead.

Shingles is one of the conditions that pharmacists can diagnose and prescribe you acyclovir for practically on the spot.

Wishing your grandmother well, that must be really stressful.

Edited

Not for opthalmic shingles. That's an emergency risking sight loss.

ArabellaSaurus · 15/09/2025 13:05

I'm sorry, OP. What a difficult time. Flowers

BonHepatitis · 15/09/2025 13:11

Just adding to the chorus to get checked out quickly in case it's shingles.

Also, I got scabies visiting a relative in hospital... But as I say, check it out!

Hope things get better for you soon. 🤗

Are they just itchy? Mosquito bites?

If it was shingles you would have pain along a nerve line

Not necessarily immediately. I had a very similar itchy spot near my eye which turned out to be the start of shingles. Pain and irritation along the nerve didn’t start for a few days. Next sign was some pins and needles type sensations above the eye/on the scalp. Took months to clear.
On the other hand it could be bites. Get some advice, OP.

Yes, I'd say its shingles. I've had it, and it was near my eye like yours but my GP didn't seem too worried, he just told me to keep my hands scrupulously clean. But a chemist will see you right if you can't get a face to face appointment.

Oldglasses · 15/09/2025 14:37

I agree it could be shingles.DS had them as a teen - I knew straight away they were shingles (on his back) and GP confirmed. They looked like CPspots/bites.

Ypu were very lucky then. Shingles near the eye can be very dangerous and needs antivirals. I had several different drugs on a very complicated schedule with my ocular shingles. I was on some of them for 6 months - and at the end of it my glasses prescription had still changed.

Second this suggestion.
My dd had shingles and it didn't look like this

I third this suggestion.

I’d also suggest you go and see a pharmacist as they can give certain treatments over the counter, antibiotics and anti virals for shingles (if you do indeed have it and, if you do, you only need to cover the lesions when going to see your grandmother.) No need to make an appointment with a doctor unless the pharmacist advises you to go.

I’m sorry about your grandmother. I hope she is ok.

Horses7 · 15/09/2025 14:53

It doesn’t look like shingles at all but it’s probably best to get checked out.
I had similar on my hand last year - in a perfect triangle and itchy, pretty sure they were bites. Took about 48 hours to fade.

gruberandassocs · 15/09/2025 15:23

Looks like flea bites - they typically bite 3/4 times usually in a line but can be a group.

Wemdubz · 15/09/2025 15:51

As a couple of other posters have said, it does look very like periocular dermatitis. I’ve got this and it flares up when I’m stressed or rundown. It goes away on its own.

Bushwoolie · 15/09/2025 15:55

I'd have it checked due to the location and possibly of shingles.
If that's the case, no one at the hospital needs to know that's what it is as they're not about to be touching you.
If you do have any concerns just cover it with a dressing whilst there.

You'll be grand.

Also, sending hugs - sounds like you're going through a tough time x

Is it stinging like a bee string? I had singles on my forehead and near my eye and a dim witted pharmacist said it was an insect bite and gave me some horrific cream which burned my skin. A quick trip to the GP confirmed it was indeed shingles and I went on the correct antivirals immediately. I felt better within 48 hours and was also referred to the hospital for a quick check as it was near my eye. Please don’t ignore it, it can be remedied really quickly if you see a GP. I know from experience how painful it gets the longer you wait!

Shinysunday · 15/09/2025 19:27

I get dermatitis which looks like that. But you should get it checked out.
